Sassi

Hi gals, I am new here but I have been reading your blogs for a few weeks. they are very helpful! So I wanted to vent a little today...today my FI and I had an appointment with the coordinator at Sassi. Which was the venue that we were both very interested in and the lady flaked on us! I was stunned. We drove all the way from Gilbert and it took us almost an hour and the lady wasn't even there! The worst thing is this was the second time that she had done this to us. The first time we had a phone meeting set up with her and she didn't call me back for days. She said that she was ill and was sorry so we made another appointment with her in person so we could go over all the details and we went prepared to reserve the date today...SHE WASN'T EVEN THERE! I am SO mad and we both feel so disrespected! Help! We have to start our search over so has anyone heard anything about Orangetree or Troon North?

Yipes! I would feel the same way! I do want to let you know that we are getting married at Sassi and have had nothing but wonderful expereiences with the Sassi crew. They came down a lot to fit our budget and have been pretty quick to answer and help with our many crazy questions -- but that being said-- if I were you and that had happened to me, I would be exploring other options as well. We did not look at Orangetree, but we did look at Troon North. It is the same kind of setting as Sassi and it has awesome views. We chose Sassi because we liked the ceremony site and the intimacy of the reception room much better at Sassi. To us, Troon looked like a very very nice golf course room and ceremony site (which it is, but that wasn't what we were going for.) I think Troon was our third choice and I know that had we picked it, it would be beautiful! You really can't go wrong. The people at Troon also seemed really nice. They brought us cheesecake and champagne to our meeting which was sweet. The did not however budge on their pricing (I am not sure if that is an issue for you guys, but it was for us) so it ended up being the most expensive place we looked at for all the things we wanted.I think if I were you (and I still loved Sassi) I would call them and get someone on the phone and ask what they can do to make up for the time you have lost waiting for them. They should make this up to you.Hope this helps!

My FI and and I had a very negative experience at Sassi as well. They told us that for our price range they had a "room" for us that would match. When we showed up, the coordinator showed us a section of the restaurant that they could "push some tables together." We were very disappointed. When we said that we were interested in something enclosed, such as a private room, she said she would talk to the catering manager and get back to us. Three weeks later she finally emailed and said that they could offer us half of their banquet room on Easter Sunday or a Tuesday in Februrary...we felt so insulted. The coordinator was very unprofessional and seemed disinterested in her job. It's too bad because it's a beautiful venue. Their prices, however, for what they can offer in comparison to some other venues is ridiculously overpriced in my opinion. My FI and I are getting married at the Royal Palms for a fraction of what Sassi offered us! We have friends that are getting married at Troon as well as friends who have been married there in the past and have had very positive experiences. Our friends who are getting married there next June were willing to negotiate from 15,000 down to 10,000...keep that in mind!

There are a couple ladies on this board, along with myself who are getting married at the Orange Tree. I love working with them. I am getting married in a month and a half and email them quite frequently, They are always very responsive and great to work with. The ceremony site in in front of a lake with water fountains and they have 3 different reception sites depending on your budget. My reception site is a ballroom, which is a little boring, but we are just going to dress it up with the tables themselves. Other than that, I can't say one negative thing about them. As for Troon, I don't know anything about them. Good Luck and sorry to here about your experiences with Sassi. That is unexceptable at any time, but you would think in this economy they would be extra concerned with their customer satisfaction rates.

I am getting married at Troon North and have had nothing but positive experiences so far! I had the same issues with Sassi, an incredible lack of communication. I live in another state so I collected all of my information first and then set appointments for the weekend I was in town to look at the places I was interested. I did not even look at Sassi because the response I got from them when I was trying to just gather information was so poor that I did not feel comfortable with their capabilities and I knew that it would just stress me out through the process. The last thing you want is to not feel comfortable with your catering manager. I looked at about 10 venues when I was there and ultimatly fell in love with Troon North and have been so happy with my decision! Grey Hawk was my second favorite, you should look there too. Good Luck with everything!

I'm getting married at Orange Tree and Joyce is very helpful.  She sets up everything that you need.  We even needed to look at mock centerpieces in the space and she set up everything for us.  The Orange Tree is really nice.  I recommend that.

I am not getting married at either of those venue's nor have I heard much about them so I am not much help. I just wanted to say I was shocked a vendor would no show like that. I found a photographer I loved that did that for an appointment. I was so mad. Even though I loved her, I would NOT book with a vendor like that. Hope you have better luck in the future.

Wow, I'm going to a wedding on Saturday at Sassi. I wonder if she's been having the same kind of problems.

My fiance and I had similar negative experience with Sassi.  The communication with the event coordinator, Bernice Hertzfeld, was terrible. She did not return phone calls for weeks, though she was much better through e-mail.  But definitely did not return calls when she promised.  The assistant, Lavi, was basically a phone secretary and no help at all.  We did get into the contract phase, but they couldn't even do that correctly! After about 5 "versions" in which they couldn't get any of the agreed upon information/verbiage/pricing correct we walked away and ended up booking the Royal Palms. If you do end up booking Sassi, here is the package we were able to negotiate and it may help you a little bit: $500 ceremony fee (down from $1500) $8000 catering minimum (down from $15000) $65 per person for the filet mignon (down from $95 i think), 3-course meal.
