Opinions on band/dj

So FI and I have been going round and round abotu a band and DJ and I feel like we're running out of time here.  We have just about every other big thing booked but this.  FI wants a band, I want a DJ.  We're tryign to compromise, but I hate to get both because of the price.  What do you all think about having a jazz band or something for cocktail hour and then a DJ the rest of the time?  If you think this is a good idea, do you know of any good jazz bands that aren't outragous for an hour of playing?  My friend did this and I thought it was great but wondering about other opinions.....TIA!

If you have the budget, a band is more memorable, in my opinion. Live music is fun! But, if your friends and family want to hear Top 40 stuff by current artists, go with the DJ. I think the compromise you proposed was a good one, but most bands aren't going to want to come out for just one hour unless you can find students to do it. I would think most bands want a minimum number of hours. I guess this is where you will have to decide what really matters most. Either would be a good choice, IMO!

I agree - live music for me is more memorable. I'm biased, though - we're having a band. :) My sister did a mariachi band during cocktail hour / dinner then it was a DJ at her reception a few years ago. That was nice...they strolled around the entire time. Everyone really enjoyed that. We're using Dreamscape from John Parker Bands for our reception and he is also providing a pianist for cocktail hour.  Not sure if they have smaller groups that can do a short gig. I've also used Entertainment Unlmited for years with work. I hired a jazz trio for a work event a couple weeks back. They were something like $850 for a 2 hour gig. I can get you contact info if you are interested. HTH and GL.

I'd love the info on the jazz band!  That seems pretty reasonable.  My email is 26summer at excite dot com.   THANKS!

Our band also had DJ equipment.  The band charged a rate for 4 hours of play and then an additional 200 bucks for the fifth hour being DJ'd.  It worked out great...we had a band basically for cocktail and dinner and then the last hour we got to dance to some fun music!  Our band was We Three but I am sure there are other bands out there they also do this service.

Hey there,  Was the band good?  Were they reasonably priced?
