chuppah: where to rent? how much to pay?

Hello all! I'm looking for suggestions on where to rent a Chuppah for a wedding in the Boston area (Woburn). That's my first question. My second question is about price. My florist's chuppahs start at $1000. That seemed like a lot to me. How much should I be expecting to pay? Many thanks!

Yikes! That does sound pricey. The quotes I got from the two florists I talked to were $250-300 before adding flowers to it, plus a 20% set-up fee (this covered 4 self-supporting poles and a top). We ended up paying just $200 for the birch poles, and supplied our own top (courtesy of our rabbi). We then payed another $200 or so for covering the front poles in dogwood. So I guess ours cost $400 + 20% service fee in the end.I don't know where to rent them, although I've heard there is a bookstore in Brookline that does it. (Kolbo maybe?)

We used A Celebrated Flower out of Somerville ((617) 661-0400). THey were recommended by our venue, and did wonderful work for us. THey don't have a website, but I recommend giving them a call if you want information. We were really happy with all the work they did for us.

Here's where we got ours from http://www.kellythebridesmaid.com I think it was $600. You can see pics under Ceremony (the one from their website) and ours (under Flowers).

what I ended up really liking about it was the way the dogwood blossoms framed our faces in some of the ceremony photos. THis is not the best example, but you get the idea:

We made our own, using the frame from a portable popup gazebo. Here is a picture:That being said, the least expensive one we were able to find in the Boston area was from Franklin Party Rentals. Theirs rents for $85. Here is a picture of it:The Israel Book Shop in Brookline also has them. However, theirs were not free-standing. Here is a picture of theirs:

I purchased a frame off of craigslist from a florist going out of business and my mom is going to make a top. If you are interested in the frame I am either going to sell it or rent it out after July 31 next yr.

Good news Knotties! We think we may be able to rent the frame from my synagogue's chuppah, even though we are not getting married at the synagogue. And a family friend has offered to help make the actual canopy! All of the pictures you sent will now be inspiration as I may get to design-my-own chuppah! Thanks once again.

Boston Chuppah Rental. http://www.bostonchuppahrental.com/ they are awesome! Great customer service, very professional. It was around $500-$600 for the chuppah, setup and take down but was well worth it. best one I have seen. It is a full 8X8.
