  • Yes in a rental property, but I clean before I move in. Depends on the hotel.

  • If the rental property is your home, why wouldn't you go barefoot?  I can't imagine always wearing shoes in your own house.

  • If it's my apartment / rental yes because I'm a cleaning freak so I know its sanitary. If its someone elses, that depends, most likely no.I never go barefoot in hotels no matter how nice...I just can't.
  • In my place - yes. In hotel rooms - no. I have big fuzzy socks that I wear when I travel. I also usually remove the top cover. I've watched one too many Dateline episodes, I think.
  • yes & yes. I love walking around barefoot!
  • Yea, in hotel rooms I always wear my flipflops from the moment my feet come out of the bed or shower. I also, do not use the comforters at hotels because they're not cleaned daily like the sheets. The first thing I do when I check in is turn on all the little and turn down the sheets and inspect then go to the bathroom to inspect...I really want one of those "Sleep sack" things you always see in Sky Mall.
  • Stage, My FI is the exact. same. way.  He literally will not walk a step without having his houseshoes (old man, lmao) on or some type of shoes on his feet.  He rarely goes sockfooted.  Bugs me but whatever.
  • I went barefoot when I lived in a rental, and when I'm in hotels.  I hate wearing shoes.  Heck, I even hate wearing "real" clothes - the minute I hit my front door I'm in my PJs.  When I was in college and a bit of a lush, I even walked home from parties carrying my shoes, too drunk to care...
  • I was never allowed to go around barefoot as a child so I think thats part of my deal now. I didn't even go barefoot in my dorm room.
  • Yes in a rental.Depends on the hotel. Sometimes I won't even sleep on the sheets. I travel with my own blanket and pillow.

  • berryholly - ME TOO.  Seriously, I have a problem.  I cannot be in my house for more than 10 minutes without changing into PJs or knit shorts and a tshirt.  I. love. comfy.
  • I can't NOT sleep with socks. Even in the summer - I wear a tank top, underwear, and socks to bed. My friend from IN thinks it's the weirdest thing and says it must be a New England thing. I wonder.

  • I, too, cannot sleep without socks!  Gotta keep my feets warm.

  • My toes freeze quickly, so they are like icicles and DH does not appreciate that. It's either warm them with socks or his body heat!

  • gg- I bring my own (small) pillow and a blanket too. I hate wearing socks in general I can't even imagine wearing them to bed. Then again, I don't even like wearing clothes half the time..as soon as I get home I strip down to pajamasa also.
  • We rent our home, and of course I go barefoot in it.  Its our home.  Its clean.  I go barefoot in hotel rooms too.  But we don't ever stay in skank nasty ones where that would be a concern.  Once when we moved cross country we stayed at some gross motel 6 or something and it was disgusting (it was all that was around in Kansas and we were tired.) I wore socks the whole time there.  So I get where you're coming from.  If a place was gross I wouldn't go barefoot, but I'm just usually never in that situation.

  • I NEVER wear socks.  I hate them.  I can't remember the last time I wore them.  It's a good thing I have naturally un-smelly feet.
  • For me, it's either flip flops or socks. I can't stand to wear sneakers - my feet feel way too confined in them! I suffer in heels if I have to, but I'm in flip-flops/sandals most days.

  • I hate closed toed shoes. I never have to wear socks if I don't wear closed toed shoes though so thats good.
  • "If you really watch Dateline, then you know its the SHEETS that you really have to worry about. :P" Depends on what you're worried about! Sheets have bedbugs, right? But I figure there's nothing I can do about that (besides try to stay at clean places). But the comforter cover - the hotels don't wash that each time a new guest stays there, and they do that black light thing on the show. Ick. On a side note, I'm sitting a couch I bought off a lady on craigslist, so I can't be that OCD about this stuff...
  • I am just like Berry.  I can NOT wear regular clothes in the house.  If I am in them longer than 5 minutes it drives me crazy.  And I will go barefoot anywhere inside.  I walk barefoot on the dog beach and I am sure that is really disgusting.I am, however, grossed out by barefoot brides, and barefoot people in public buildings.  Reminds me of all the girls at school dances that go barefoot.  I guess I am hypocritical since I will walk on a sidewalk barefoot.

  • I check for bed bugs at every. single. hotel. we stay at.  It doesn't matter where or how nice the place.  Caesars Palace in April, I was bug hunting there too. I saw a special on it and it terrified me.  I've been ridiculously terrified of it ever since.  Sometimes I'm still convinced they're there, even after I check.

  • I do admit to walking barefoot down NYC & Melbourne, Australia streets before. I had really bad shoes on and it was either barefoot or horrible blisters. I took my chances with going barefoot.

  • I never knew you could see them with your bare eyes!  Interesting note:  The Wynn is the only casino with a specially trained K9 unit for bomb sniffing.  They are also trained to sniff out bedbugs and are sent to a room if there is a complaint.

  • Same here East, I don't care if its the nicest, most expensive hotel that the queen would stay at. I still gotta make sure theres no bed bugs.Sascha- I don't think I ever go longer than 5 minutes at home either with my clothes on unless I'm getting ready to leave again. "I don't want to wear pants" is as good as "I'm home, how was your day?" in our house.
  • This thread is making me itch.
  • I've heard that sometimes you can them if the infestation is bad enough.  What I always look for is a presence of little black and red spots around the edges of the mattresses.  It's supposed to be their poop basically, a sure sign the've been there.

  • Yeah, supposedly they look like poppy seeds. Either on the headboard or on the sheets..I look at both.
  • I am shuddering.  I thought my gramps was always joking when he said Good night don't let the bed bugs bite.

  • My great grandmother finished that up with "and if they do, hit them with a shoe until they're black and blue" eww bugs.
