PLANTS??

Are any of you getting plants for your ceremony?I have 4 plant stands that I'm using to define the alter in our outdoor ceremony.  2 are taller and 2 are shorter.  My vision is to have 3 plants on each side - one on each plant stand, tiering down to one sitting on the ground. So - my question is this:  Of those of you who are getting plants for your ceremony/reception....where are you getting them?  How much?  Idealy I think I'd like ferns since they kind of overflow.

If you are thinking ferns (which I think would be lovely by the way), you might go to a greenhouse NOW and ask about them.  We needed ferns for a sorority thing around this time of year a couple years ago and everywhere we went, they told us ferns were not available now. I don't know if it was a freaky weird Lexington thing, but I just thought I'd give you a heads up. Maybe ferns are readily available in cincy...i hope so! Good luck! :)

Yeah...I'm thinking most greenhouses/nurserys(ies?) are low on the indoor plants (unless they have an indoor area to house them through the cold weather.  I'll check around.  I also sent an email to Susan Foy, my florist, to see if she had any ideas.

We are getting potted mums for our ceremony. I know they are more flowers than plant, but we are paying abt $3 each, since FI works for a nursery here in Dayton. :)

My florist responded with some pictures of some beautiful ferns she can get from her greenhouse, but they're $25 each....and I need 4-6 of them....I just feel like I don't want to spend that kind of money on friggin' plants!

Trust me, I understand that! We are using the mums as aisle decorations for our outdoor ceremony and at the base of the arch. If we didn't get his discount, we probably wouldn't be using the mums. Let me see what I can find out. The nursery is called Springhill. It's a little north of Dayton actually, in Tipp City.

Try Krogers!  They had awesome looking ferns all summer and now that they've switched to Mums, they're on sale!  And they still look great.  Honestly, they probably take better care of them than I would have so waiting to get them isn't a bad thing!

I (of course) am using a HUGE amount of potted plants of all kinds for our wedding. We're using ferns GALORE that we've acquired mostly from Lowes, believe it or not. If you go to your lowes, you can get the ones on clearance and basically take them home and give them TLC (which is what we've done since January (I had them in my spare room while it was soo cold out). Now is the best time to get 'annuals' in pots on clearance, especially if you can wait past labor day and just keep them warm and watered and fed.
