Vendor Review - Vera's Bridal in Madison

I ended up purchasing my wedding dress from Vera's. Of all the bridal stores I've been to, this one had the largest selection of dresses. The consultants were incredibly welcoming, patient, and professional. My mom lives in Racine and I'm in Madison. She was running a half hour late due to construction/traffic, and Vera's was able to switch  my appointment to a half hour later, so that I wouldn't lose time trying on dresses. They were incredibly understanding and accomodating. They encourage you to take pictures and do not pull tags. There dresses were in great condition! They have an area of the store where you have mirrors on three sides of you, so you can truly see your gown from all angles. Catherine was my consultant. She made me feel really comfortable and took the time to truly understand what I was looking for. Once your dress comes in, Vera's allows you to store the dress at their store until you want to pick it up. They also allow you to come back in and try on your dress whenever you'd like (which they told me is a common occurrence). I loved that their seamstress works in-house, and has been with the company for 30 years. While I was there, Vera's daughter Trisha helped me choose the perfect sash. I would highly recommend Vera's.

I bought my first dress from Vera's in 2007 and also had a good experience.  Unfortunatly, I did not get married at that time and the dress no longer fits.  I took it back to see if it could be altered to fit.  They tried to help, but they said the only thing they could do was put in gussetts, which IMO would not have looked right.

My only piece of advice is to make sure that the measurements of the dress ordered match ALL of your measurements.  I believe this is why the dress didn't fit me correctly later.  We looked at the order form and noticed that my hip measurement was 45" and the dress size ordered had a 41" hip measurement.  This was the exact area that the dress didn't fit in.  The rest of the measurements matched up.

Vera's must have changed things since 2007. When I ordered my dress, the consultant took my measurements and wrote them on a sheet of paper. She then had me personally write down my measurements on the order form and then initial it. This was done to guarantee that I had seen it and agreed with what was written down. I also had to personally write down the dress size and measurements for that size (based on the designer size chart) that most closely matched my measures and initial it, allowing me to choose if I wanted the smaller or larger size (since my measurements were in between two dress sizes).

If the proceedure has changed I'm glad.  When I was there the consultant wrote down all the numbers and I just initialed the size selection.  I didn't catch the difference between the hip sizes because of the excitement of finding "the dress" and I trusted the consultant.  The other two measurments worked well.
