Bridesmaid dress issue

HELP!!!
I chose my five bridesmaids based on the people I want standing next to me, not the "look."  I found a dress at David's for $99, a strapless a line that is straight across, I was told this is a universal look that flatters everyone.  One of my maids just found out that there is no way the dress will fit.  She offered to back out but I am not having that, she is important to me and I want her there.  The color is cornflower blue.  I have searched the internet for a differenrt but similar dress but am coming up with nada.  The wedding is on June 19, anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Bridesmaid dress issue

  • I would let her pick another davids dress in cornflower blue. Don't worry about strap less. They have tons of dresses to choose if you let her have any neckline.

Also, I don't know who told you that A line strapless dresses look good on EVERYBODY, because that's a load of crap. There is no magical dress out there that looks good on every single person out there. If the someone that told you that was a sales lady, she was yanking your chain for a sale. I am sure your girls look fine, but you should never pick a dress for everyone based on what supposedly looks good on everyone. Make sure everyone tries it on....the dress that looks good on all your girls is the one that looks good on all of them...

  • Have the other ladies ordered their dresses yet?  If not, I would just tell them all that they can get whatever cornflower dress they want from DB.

Is the size problem with this girl that the size doesn't run that high or that the dress is discontinued and they don't have her size in stock?

<div>This. If it's not too late, let the others pick their dress. You can even say a specific length (knee, tea, long) or even a general style/fabric (pick something flow-y, something in satin, etc). And yes, that style doesn't fit everyone. My 2 MOHs are very different... one looks perfect in everything and one couldn't get her boobs in most of the dresses! </div>

  • I actually find the strapless straight-across to be one of the most unflattering styles out there - it creates the "shelf boob" look.

If you haven't ordered all the dresses yet, I'd advise you to just tell the girls to buy and dress in that colour and let them pick the style that they find the most flattering for them.  Otherwise, let your one BM wear a similar dress in the same colour, or see if the largest size in the dress available can't be altered to fit her - maybe a corset back could be added?

  • My two sister-in-laws (one current, the other future) have already ordered and my MOH really likes the dress.  If this one BM is having this problem then I know my other friend will as well.  So I will have 3 BMs in one dress and 2 BMs in another.  The only problem I'm finding is that DB's plus size collection does not come in my color.  Oh, and I'm in South Carolina, one BM is in California and the other is in Massachusetts.  So it's not like I could have them get together to find a dress.
I think I may have to have another color, I just feel bad b/c my MOH will be in the same color as my sisters.
  • Why is it bad that your MOH will be in the same color as your sisters? MOH doesn't have to look different, and she could always add some other accessory (like a sash) in the color of the other 2 dresses if that's a concern.
