If Dad can't do it??

My father is a local police officer in the town that I live in. It is often very hard for him to get time off and sometimes even just not possible to get time off no matter what the time off is needed for.
SOOOOO.... my next best idea is, if my dad cant make it to my wedding is it considered "acceptable" for my fiances father to walk me down the isle. Instead of my father giving me away, my father in law would be welcoming me and my family into his family. What are some thoughts on this???

If it was me.. I would personally use another family member (ie. brother, uncle, god father, etc)... if you use your FIL.. I suggest the priest knows to say something different (instead of "who gives her away")

In all honesty, I wouldn't set up a back up person. I'd probably plan to have both my father and my FIL walk me down.
That way no one feels like they're being replaced and no one feels like a second choice.

Ehh, I feel like the FFIL thing is kind of weird. I would walk myself or have another family member walk me before I would do that. What about your mom? brother? grandfather?

What about asking your dad who he would want to do it in his place?

If it were me and my dad was unable to do it (for whatever reason), my grandfather would be my first choice. After that I would choose my BIL because I've got too many uncles to pick and choose between.

Is your wedding local? He can't get somebody to trade with him for an hour or two?

I know a lot of cops, and I've never known one who couldn't get time off for something big like their daughter's wedding.

I'd have a grandfather or uncle walk you down the aisle, or walk solo.

Maybe you could plan on having both mom and dad walk you down the aisle. Worst case scenario, it's just you and mom, but at least she's prepared.

I'd plan this like I'd plan if we had a GM who might get deployed. If he makes it, great (I'm sure he will), if not, don't replace him, just go solo.

If my dad couldn't make it, I would pretty much rip out his jugular with my bare hands. Okay, so I'm not that violent, but I wouldn't be a happy bride. My dad is a huge part of my life, so just saying "oh, i'll have someone else do it" would be really hurtful to him regardless of if he's there or if he's not. I'm actually having two people walk me down the aisle... my grandfather (who will be wearing grey and pink) and my father (who will be wearing black and pink) because they're both so influential in my life.
