Veil Question

For those that are using or considering a birdcage veil, how did you know that it would look right with your dress?  I think they are great but I never knew if there were rules regarding the cut/design of a dress that would make that work.

I don't know but let me tell you i found it very hard to put on. I won one and i have no clue how it's supposed to go on my head. It might sound trivial and all but I am struggling. Does it go above the nose? under the nose? pull it to your chin but it covers only your face and not your hair? || to your eyelashes? few inches from your face? straight accross? in a slope? etc etc etc... I may just be overthinking it.

i personally think birdcage veils go best with vintage style gowns...mermaids for instance. the more glamorous and 'edgy' type gowns look best with no veil at all or some other sort of glam headpiece. i wouldnt say that's a rule. just my opinion. they are classy though!
