WWYD???

OK so, fi really wants photo and video and he is stuck on this photographer who's work I'm not crazy about....and it's not like they are that cheap either??? I want pink posh and for less that 1000 more we could get a good package with p.posh, mind you the quality difference is HUGE between the two! I am contemplating skipping on a  professional videographer, (given we both have plenty of family who will tape it anyways) and instaed splurge on the pictures. What do you ladies think?

I chose photography over video, meaning I splurged on my photographer and am getting a family friend to do the video (he does it on the side professionally). So, I wouldnt pass on the video allt ogether (everyone who has done this has regretted it), but its all in what is more important to you. :)

Who is the photog he wants?  If you can have a good photo and a good video than I would go for both over having one or the other that is amazing.

I would splurge on the pictures for sure. You want something great not mediocre. Go for quality not cheap.I didn't really want a videographer at first also and thought the same that a family member would video it. But I started thinking family members will being having fun and miss some parts that I would want on video. I did get one anyways. I worked my budget around to make sure I could get one. Thank goodness I did because not 1 person videoed at our wedding. I was right they were to busy having fun. If both are important to you. You can find a way to make it work for you and your FI.

Velazquez photog. they don't do video, so we really wouldn't be saving much by getting them. They are only a bit cheaper than p.posh

Personally I would splurge more on the photos than the video.  I love PP's work so I knew I wanted them and found a videographer that did good work for less than $1K.  I don't watch my video all the time, but I do look at the pictures frequently.

part of the planning is prepping for marriage... meaning "the art of compromise." Although PP is awesome, that extra grand can be spent on something he also wants. We all know that majority of the time we (women) pick the colors, the dresses, the decorations and ect... and its rare for the SO to stand firm on wanting something. I say compromise. Have the video he wants, but search for another photographer who's quality you will also love at the price you can agree on.

Look at Rusty Bryce or In Touch Video Productions. They are similar in prices. Many girls have used them both. They are very reasonable. I used In Touch Video Productions.

I just looked at the Velazquez website.  And to be honest I am not impressed.  I would go with Pink Posh

definitely splurge on the photog. the pictures will be displayed around your and your family's homes. you'll watch the video once and then forget about it.

I think it's easy to say - go for the more expensive photog, you won't watch the video, but if it's the one thing your FI wants ... it's not worth it to spend the extra $1k AND fight about it.If he really wants photo and video, let him pick the video and then compromise on a photog you both like - like Zurita said.

save all the money you spend on eating out over the next year for your 1k videographer. and splurge on the photography. but you will definitely want a video.

Thanks ladies I showed him the pp site and he liked the pics and we realized in reading over the email w/price packages they sent me that that if we get the package under the one I wanted we would be spending about what we would spend w/the other phtog.  YAY! We are now looking for a cheap videographer!

If you can AFFORD the 1K then splurge but if not don't put yourself into debt over 1 day

we didn't have a videographer, we had my aunt do the video and we were perfectly happy with that.
  • edited December 2011
If we cut back on a couple things here and there i am sure we can squeeze them in....debt is something we deff. don't want after the wedding...we dont plan to use cc at all for anything wedding related we are saving cash as we go and paying for stuff like that...FI is crazy about having good credit!!!

I would rather have amazing pictures than a wedding video that I may watch a few times then put away in a closet. I am using Pink Posh and yes, you should use them too! They are awesome!

I would budget for a photog I love and a videographer. Personally the company your FI likes are not my taste, but they are several great photogs that are less than PP. So you really can have great pictures and a beautiful video. I think everyone says they look at pictures more than video, and it's true but I still wanted to see my DH reactions as I walked down the aisle, and hear our vowels, see my dad's speech and my MOHs speech. I wanted to see our first dance. WHichever way you decide Good Luck =-)
