Flavor HELP!

I have no clue about cake....I know I love it but that is about it haha. This is what my venue has told us about cake: "Standard wedding cake flavors include: chocolate, white chocolate pound, yellow, white, and carrot. If there is a special flavor you desire, notify us. We can make any flavor you like." I have no idea where to go from there. We are getting married on New Years Eve in Williamsburg, VA....anyone have any flavor ideas? I know the groom's cake will be Red Velvet (his favorite).

mmm, white chocolate poundcake sounds yummy. Mint chocolate (or chocolate cake w/ a peppermint ganache filling) would also be a neat sort of "wintery" flavor.Other interesting flavors I can think of are spice, marble, coconut, peanut butter, chocolate chip, lemon, almond, & chocolate espresso.

My wedding is on New Year's Eve as well.  For the wedding cake we are having chocolate and peanut butter cake with a pb fudge buttercream, mint chocolate chip and chocolate mint cake with vanilla buttercream, and chocolate chip and strawberry cake with chocolate buttercream.  We love these flavors and since they are less traditional for a wedding we decided to have carrot cake with cream cheese buttercream, white cake with banana buttercream, and lemon cake with raspberry buttercream for the groom's cake. It depends on your own personal taste, but since it is a winter wedding we wanted more rich cake flavors.  Then I decided we should have the groom's cake be lighter more traditional flavors so that everyone will be happy.  But it is your day so you should choose which flavors you and your groom like best.  Do they offer you a cake tasting?  That would probably help narrow down your cake choices.

I think that white chocolate pound cake with a champagne mousse would be amazing, and it would tie in with the whole new year's thing.  Or maybe something like a spice sponge cake with cranberry mousse filling- something comfort food-y.  Good luck!

Hi! If it helps, perhaps start checking out this winter magazines (Swiss Colony) or perhaps go to a bakery and see what was a popular item from the previous year. See if you can get a tasting in somewhere and perhaps write down three flavors you really like and perhaps two alternates. Another idea, see what magazines offered last winter so perhaps a trip to your library? Hope this'll help!
