Clean my dress before the big day??

I bought my dress in early this summer. It's a silk Romona Keveza and I wouldn't have been able to afford it but it was the sample dress and was about $1000 off! The dress has been handled quite a bit prior to and since I bought it especially during alterations. It doesn't have any visible stains but I feel like it may need to be "freshened up."The alteration store kind of has an old smell to it and it was in my closet for a while. I've also been a little hot and clammy while trying it on numerous times during fittings. Is it common to have a dress cleaned prior to the big day? It is silk so it can't be steamed. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

  • I think that once you have it pressed it will be fine. Mine was the same way and once it was pressed, it was completely like new again.
  • I'd be a bit wary of getting it cleaned unless there are actual marks on it.  A friend got her dress cleaned prior to her wedding and the drycleaner ruined it (seriously).  If you do clean it make sure the drycleaner you use has a lot of experience with wedding gowns and with silk. Perhaps you could put hang it somewhere in the house that has a good breeze so it can air for a while?  Or perhaps at your parents' house if you don't want to risk FI seeing it?
