How soon for a dress?

How soon did you shop and order your dresses? I'm haven't been really interested in going shopping because I'm trying to loose 15 more pounds before trying them on, but I'm afraid it might take longer to get in than I'm thinking. Any advice?

Re: How soon for a dress?

• I felt the same way as you, but I went to look anyway because I thought - what if I don't lose the weight? I want a dress I can feel good in no matter what. I figure any dress that looks good now, will look even better later after I lose weight.I went looking & ordered in April, and I'm getting married in January. I would say that timeline is right on the money because my dress came in last month, so I still have time to lose weight before I need to start going in for alteration fittings.
• I was told a dress will take on average about six months to come in. That said, some probably take longer, and some shorter. Always better to give more time than not enough, to ensure there's enough time for alterations and such :)
• Girl, where exactly are you planning on losing those 15 lbs from? You're gorgeous!

• I went with my sister 6 months before her wedding (a year before mine!) to help her find a dress.  She made me try on dresses too and what do you know....I found and bought it last February!
• I had dress drama. I ordered my dress in January... They said it would take six weeks and it took seven months. Then it was giant, so we had four fittings to make it fit... Then I lost more weight and we had to have it fitted again... I guess my advice would be it's never too early to find a dress and order it... But wait as long as you can to have it fitted!! (and try not to gain any weight after the dress is orderd!) :)
• I planned on 6 months, but I got it a year before.
• If you're losing weight...*beware*...I didn't mean to lose as much weight as I have (running around will do it to ya!).I've had my dress for over a year.  When I put it on a few weeks ago, it looked like I was a little girl playing in my mom's closet!  The freakin' thing is HUGE now.  I knew that I would need the ta-ta's taken in (as I do with everything), but the seamstress is now pretty much remaking my entire dress!  I've been to 2 fittings and it seems to be coming together great...but...*doh!*I didn't order mine through a boutique though...I got lucky and fell in love with the dress that was supposed to be my "back-up" for the AHR (found it on ebay from another bride who was going to use it for her backup dress, but she didn't wear it).  So I didn't have to worry about ordering time.HTH!  GL!!!  (I'm having more of a hard time finding undergarments in my size to wear under my dress than I did finding the actual dress!)
• I was going to wait until October/November, but went in early August, and it was a good thing, the dress I ordered... takes 7-8 months and my wedding was 9 months away!
• I wasn't going to order one until about 8 months to my wedding, but went to a boutique sample sale and fell in love with a gorgeous Pronovias dress. I am going to wait to alter it until about 3 months before the wedding. Although i am not planning to lose much weight, i am doing yoga consistently and that might mean i'll lose a few inches. Right now, it's two sizes too big.. I say go in now to take a look and find THE dress. If you need to order it, you can always do it a little later (in case you wanted to lose some weight), but at least you'd know what you want!
• I think about 6 months:) BTW, got married at the same place you are, it is awesome!!! The wedding coordinator is great as is the staff, they are amazing! Let me know if you have any questions!!!
• im getting married next july and just got one. my mom and friends wanted to dress shop.. so i went. and now im done! its somewhat early, i do hope to drop a few pounds before hand but for now, the dress fits me perfect so it will hopefully need some  alterations.. and hopefully keep me motivated not to gain weight before the wedding!!!i got it at davids bridal and took it home the same day i bought it. they said i should do fittings 4 months before.
