St. Lucia vs. Dominican Republic vs. Turks & Caicos

Hi Girls,I need help!  We have narrowed it down to the 3 locations in the subject.  Can you give me and advice on any location?  I guess I am looking for hotel recs, what type of excursions are on each island and if you have been to more than one of the options above, which was your favorite and why.  Pros and cons of each are also welcome!I love the beauty the St. Lucia offers as well as the Pitons and rain forest.  DR seems reasonably priced, but I am not sure if the island offers much as far as excursions and sights.  T&C - well, I still need to research that, but it's on the list!Help!  Thanks so much!

Re: St. Lucia vs. Dominican Republic vs. Turks & Caicos

  • Im staying at Stonefield Estates for my HM! Im so very excited, its a little pricey but their packages can be all inclusive & they are private villas with private pool with amazing views of the Pitons from one side, the ocean straight ahead, and the jungle is all around you. I stumbled onto their site by accident & refused to stay anywhere else once I read their trip advisor reviews. I really truly can't wait to go.

  • Thanks for all of the replies.  I think we have decided St. Lucia is the location! Now we just have to agree on the resort.  We are looking at Sandals Grande and a few other...Stonefield being on of them.  Their HM package looks wonderful.
  • We did a combo of two resorts in St. Lucia. We did the Regency and also Rendezvous and frankly the Sandals in St. Lucia resorts knocked our socks off compared to the Rendezvous. We had so many choices of restaurants and in the long run included so much more that we wish we would have done a combo of Ladera ( a small resort) and Sandals instead or just Sandals entirely the whole time. I was reading reviews on Rendezvous at the time and wish I would have listened to Nancy about the other resorts like Ladera. We of course still managed to have a great time but I preferred Sandals over Rendezvous. We worked with Nancy from www.myislandgetaways.com and she was instrumental in our planning and helped us in many ways. She has been to St. Lucia many times  and is a total expert on the island. We followed her recommendations on everything from dining to excursions and it was perfect. The Pitons are amazing and one excursion not to miss. We loved the whole island.
  • I just got engaged in St. Lucia it was beautiful. We stayed at the Sandels Regency. Def the biggest with the most to do. We went to the Gtrande for a day-much smaller and the crowd seemed a bit more uptight (it does cost a bit more) the regency was def more of a perty atmospehere-though still not a  late night spot. After a day of food and sun you will need your sleep. The variety of excursions was good. If you  go check out Joe Knows tours website-not offered by the hotel-book online beforehand for a great tour at a great price-book ahead time because he only takes 12 people a day -3 days a week-it fills up fast. Have fun!
  • I am not a fan of Sandals at all so my rec, is to find a small boutique size place and not go to a HM facctory. That is just my opinion. You could be in any sandals in the world and they all are very similar. I like to get the feel of a place and not feel like im on a compound. I prefer the southern side of the isalnd because i feel there are more activities on that side.

  • Theres lots to do on the south side of the island, we've got our week booked with different activities. It just isnt the non stop people filled party scene. We didnt want people in rooms beside/below/on top of us. We wanted a little privacy for our days & nights if we chose it. Same reason we didnt want to go on a cruise. Now keep in mind that the island is small. If there's something on the north end that we want to do its no big deal to get there and do it. The north end is more tourist manufactured than anything. Thats why there are so many AI resorts crammed up there. We wanted to be close the the jungle, have fewer people on the beach, to go snorkeling, and hike the pitons, we didnt care to see 100's & 100's of people everywhere we looked. Thats just us though, maybe if it wasnt a honeymoon we would enjoy a sandals type place but we want it to be about us because we're only getting one honeymoon.
