when to pick up dress?

I have an appointment with my bridesmaids in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if maybe I should pick up my dress then.  I still have over 7 months but would like to look at altering my bust line so may need a little time for that.  I'm afraid if I pick it up too early, it could yellow though....thoughts?

    I picked my dress up with 4-5 months before the wedding. I took it off the hanger and wrapped it in a white sheet. No yellowing or problems.

    I picked up my dress last October and didn't get married until July.  I took it off the hanger and wrapped it in a sheet until I took it to the seamstress for alterations.  I wouldn't worry about it turning yellow, unless you leave it in the garmet bag zipped.  Your dress needs to breathe.

    If you have a pet who could damage it or have any concerns whatsoever about it getting damaged, leave it at the salon for as long as possible.  I left mine with the Wedding Shoppe because it would be covered under their business insurance and they guaranteed that I would have my same dress, fully altered, in time for my wedding should anything happen to it in their care.  Once you leave with it, it becomes your issue to deal with.  Case in point, I brought my veil home and it has gotten a small snag in it already.  Nobody will notice it but me but I was totally bummed out.  If it happened while they were holding it, I'd be getting a new veil.  :(

    I just picked my dress up (from the Wedding Shoppe) since I'll be getting alterations done else where. I haven't heard about wrapping your dress in a sheet?! Mine is hanging on the hanger in the garment bag in my closet. Should I do something different? TIA!

    Now I'm VERY worried, Smt2004 made a comment about leaving her dress in garment bag, and I'm in the same boat. I bought my dress (8 months ago) and had to pick it up to be close to me and find alteration options..NO said ANYTHING a of garment bag and turning yellow. VERY SCARED!!!! Missy
