Weird Eating Habbits?

I was eating lunch today and a friend of mine looked at me like I had two heads because I put chips on my sandwhich. I have been doing this since I was a kid and never thought about it as being strange. I also put ketchup on my mac' n cheese and I like burnt pop corn. Any eating habbits you have that you think are normal but others may think are strange?

Re: Weird Eating Habbits?

  • I eat my pizza toppings with a fork and then eat the crust last.  I do the same thing with tacos.  I eat the inside with a fork and then the crust last.

  • And I just bring Mac n' Cheese to family get togethers and make it for him. It's actually be requested that I bring a few boxes because the kids like to eat it too. That would drive me nuts.  DH is a really picky eater (not quite as much as Tim though :) ), but his mother and I have both yelled at him so many times about how rude it is to turn down food as a guest that he is just slowly getting over it.  I've told him that if he acts like that in front of our kids and makes them think it's ok I'll smack him.  That is not ok or polite behavior to me.

  • My H will eat anything once.  I love that about him.He ate dog in Korea.  He didn't know until after, but still.  He's had alligator, snake, frog legs, etc.BUT, he doesn't like his eggs scrambled or cilantro.  So weird.

  • Sarah - How does he manage to pose as a 10-year-old to get away with ordering from the kid's menu? Around here, it's usually 10-12 and under only.

  • oh and i have a couple of weird sandwiches.Bologna and ketchup, and tomato and mayo.

  • I use plastic silverware and plastic cups whenever possible. I buy in bulk, I have a 1,500 piece box of plastic forks and spoons.I also can not pour a drink into my mouth like people do when they drink, I have to suck therefor I use straws and stay away from cans and bottles.
  • TLV, Everyone knows Tim's a picky eater and when we go places for dinner like that, it's always with family and they all know. He went to a food therapist for about 2 years when he was 7 and 8, but it didn't help. He says he has some sort of sensory issue with foods. I didn't believe it until he started throwing up after he chewed on a banana. I think a lot of it is psychological because of his bad reaction to the textures of certains foods. I've accepted that I've married a 5-year old.
  • I can't think of any right now. I know this one guy who puts ketchup on EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING.   It's so bad he actually carrys a bottle with him.

  • I love pretzels and orange juice.
  • I use plastic silverware and plastic cups whenever possibleMe too. I absolutely can not drink from a glass cup. It either needs to be plastic or I'm gonna need a straw. I also don't like glass plates. They creep me out.
  • Huh, that's crazy.  And I'm assuming he's always been like that since he was so young when he went to the therapist? I'm intrigued by this food therapist person, was it helpful at all?I think Bryan is just plain picky, because nearly every time I convince him to try something new he ends up loving it.  He's just too addicted to pizza and fried chicken for his own good. He had never eaten a deviled egg until 3 years ago, and now he downs dozens of them every Easter.

  • I am not a complete environmental freak, but it irks me when people use plastic cuttlery when it's not necessary. We have them at work in a drawer, but we also have TONS of real stuff as well as 3 dishwashers and 3 kitchens.  This one guy is so lazy that he takes a plastic fork every day.  Dude, walk to the fuucking kitchen and put your fork in the dishwasher.

  • Fi's family saves plasticware and reuses it.  I find that odd.  It sort of defeats the purpose.

  • Ricks, I do the pickle juice thing too.I can't stand ketchup on fries.  I prefer bleu cheese.
  • cew* really!? Everyone used to hate me for being like this, Im always asking family and friends for plastic forks and straws lol! Im so happy theres someone else that does this. I was starting to think it was weird myself.
  • Ewww plastic cannot be properly cleaned/disinfected so those plastic items are probably crawling in germs.

  • i always make sure i save what i perceive to be the absolute best bite for last.
  • sarahnvinny - yep. Glass makes me squirm. I'm don't mind metal cutlery like forks and spoons, but I do not have any glass cups in my house. I have a huge collection of go cups and all of my plates (except for the fancy ones) are plastic (not disposable, just plastic).
  • i always make sure i save what i perceive to be the absolute best bite for last.haha me too Daff!  like on a burger, the bite that has the most cheese?  yup last bite.

  • Cew - See, I can't drink from a plastic cup. It's gotta be glass.

  • The last bite is the best for (PB cups, pies with fillings, pizza with toppings, brownie edges, the crust on the side of a pan of mac and cheese)

  • nothin better than Wendy's fries dipped in a chocolate frosty.  and plain Lays chips on a PBJ sandwich.  yum.

  •  I have had a complex with metal in my mouth for as long as I can remember.  I hate when people take food off their forks with their teeth and when they scrape their forks off their plates.
  • shelleydiane, tomato and mayo sandwiches are NOT wierd. That is one of the few things where I like mayo.
  • I am pretty much a vegan now but back in the day I was beyond picky.  We have to check out menus everywhere we go.  If they have a garden salad im good.   If its a salad with fruit on it or if there were dishes with meat and fruit combos or fruit sauces,no way.  no nut sauces either. and chocolate and fruit dont go together. Ew. I pretty much live on 7 foods myself :) Sarah- does your DH have an heightened sense of smell? a lot of people who do have a very sensitive palate.
  • MissSarah, I'm floored you said that.... I have thought FI was BSing me about stuff making him throw up, etc. He's been like this since he was a little kid, too (his sister confirms it). I was just telling him about this post/your DH, and he was saying if he gets a taco (meat and cheese only) and there's a tiny piece of lettuce in it, he can taste it, even if he doesnt see it, and it freaks him out. So, I can see there being a sensory issue at work there, beyond being a picky eater. We just work with it. I've developed some weird food habits over the past 5 years - I can eat most chicken, steak (unless its filet), or pork, and at our bike ride/campout 2 weeks ago, someone brought food for a cookout. Yep - pork chops and chicken. I brought a pack of hot dogs. I paid my money, but grilled hot dogs. We tried to explain (last year, I snuck out and had to go buy a hamburger at the food stand) that I don't digest those foods (I truly dont and shouldn't digest hot dogs, but do), and I ate some of the sides, but he was pretty snotty about it. I guess I shouldn't go to cookouts, but oddly, he was okay with the non-meat eater not eating his food but eating the snacks she brought and the side dishes.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
