Need knottie vibes

One of my cats, Buster, is having some problems with diarrhea. Sorry, I know it's gross and TMI. He also had clear fluid come out of his little rear last night. I'm trying not to freak out, he's my little boy. I have to drop him off at the vet because I'm meeting the site manager today and there are no available appointments at the vet. I hate that I even have to just drop him off like that! argh! I want to cry and I hope hope hope that he is ok and it's not anything serious. Please send good vibes his way. I have to go to the vet now, but this is Buster:

Make sure he gets plenty of water, even if you have to force it down with a syringe--diarrhea in cats can be deadly because of dehydration.   You can mix water with pedialyte and give it to him, it will help rehydrate him and replinish lost electrolytes.Has he been on any medication?  Antibiotics?  If he has been on antibiotics, diarrhea is very common because orally ingested they also destroy the beneficial bacteria in their stomachs that let them digest(same thing happens when humans take it). If that is the case, I have had luck with helping restore my cat's digestion by giving him plain active-cultured  non-fat yogurt(about a teaspoon 3 times per day).  It can help replenish the digestive bacteria in his stomach.  Most cats are lactose intolerant, but I have found that the bacteria in the yogurt prevented him from having a bad reaction. In any case wait to hear what the vet says.  Lots of vibes sent to your sick kitty.

Aw, poor Buster!  I have 2 cats and I get so upset anytime I think something is wrong- like if I think one is acting too tired, or has diarrhea.  I feel your heartache!

Hi ladies, I appreciate all your support - thanks so much. Update on Buster: he has an inflamed colon. The vet sent him home with some antibiotics. They're testing him for parasites so we just have to wait until tomorrow for the results to come back from the lab. tilliea, thanks for the heads up on keeping him hydrated. The vet actually had to give him some subcutaneous fluids because he was slightly dehydrated. I'm going to keep a keen eye on his water intake.

eevixxn,Go heavy on the pedialyte. Morning, afternoon, and evenings. Antibiotics if orally ingested will make the diarrhea worse--go with the non-fat yogurt(mountain high or dannon is good--non flavored, just plain--Sadaf brand is really good its a local middle-eastern dairy in the LA area but their quality is solid) if he will eat it freely--do it in between his medicine applications.A heavy chicken broth with shredded carrot, if creamed in a blender, will help too. If he is one of those eclectic cats that is okay with variety it will really help. Carrot is high in pectin, and high vitamin K. The pectin will help coagulate what is coming out of his digestive system. the vitamin K will help any kind of clotting needs to be done as a result of injuries from his condition.Chamomile tea is anti-inflamatory and non-irritative. I have used it on many of my cats over the years, mostly as a cleanser but also as an anti-irritant--brew it and include some drops in his water. Put all that you can in his food. Check his back side and make sure it is not chapped from going to the bathroom constantly(he will suffer from it if he is going to the bathroom more than he should--use some petroleum jelly/vaseline to ease his irritation around that area). Something in his diet is not agreeing with him. That is the bottom line. Aside from the above advice if you can infuse chamomile tea into his water without him fussing over it, do as much as you can. It will soothe him and make him want to sleep just as much as it will reduce his inflamation.  Stay with him as much as you can. Cats always do better with full attention from their humans, the more positive energy you give him by spending time with him the more likely he will respond to treatment.
