Vent! Sorta Long!!

I am trying to remain calm... My PC crashed on Sunday morning... I took it in to the shop in which I always have computer work done. I had several virisus on my hard drive and way too much unnecessary downloads. They were marvelous as usual... made my PC all better, added better anti-viris software along with some awesome programs I didn't have on it already and didn't charge me nearly as much as they should have. I discovered this afternoon when I got my PC up and running here in the office again that I have now lost all of my bookmarks. :( So, I figured not a big deal.... I may have lost some bio's that I saved for inspiration..... some links to some awesome DIY templates, things of that nature... all Wedding related, none work related. I could live with that. What do I just discover about two minutes ago??? ONLY 1/4 OF MY DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN SAVED. Why is this such a big deal you ask?!? My MIB Invites were saved on my hard drive... my AHR Boarding Pass invites were saved on my hard drive..... yikes!!!! I do usually back all my documents onto an external hard drive just in case, but the last time I did that was the end of July. I may be able to save my MIB Invites, but the Boarding Pass Invites..... gone. I'll have to re-create them all over again!! And for those of you who've done them before... you know that it takes A LONG TIME to create them. Especially from scratch! Ugh!!! All the downloaded awesome fonts...gone. I need a drink! ~~~ Yummy cheesecake for all who've stayed with me on this one ~~~~ **Vent over**

Re: Vent! Sorta Long!!

  • Oh Shelli, how awful!  HUGS!  Maybe you could call the store and ask if there's any way to get those docs back???
  • OMG Shelli, I would cry.  I mean really, I wouldn't know what to do.  I would just cry.
  • Thanks for feeling me on this one guys! :) And Danielle, I'm definitely going to contact the shop tomorrow to see if there is anything I can do. I'm not holding out for anything positive though..... I'll just be more bummed if turns out they can't do anything. Lesson learned though! I'm backing up on a daily basis! :) Okay... maybe not daily, but at least weekly for sure!
  • Hey Shelli, in case you're completely desperate I know Best Buy told me once that they could do a complete file retrieval for $300. (My hard drive was completely fried by a virus.) Pricey, but if you have a lot of irreplaceable stuff on your hard drive it might be worth a phone call.
  • Oh nooooo!!!  My bookmarks were lost a while back and I actually did cry.  I felt silly, but at the same time it was a year's worth of wedding research/bookmarking as well as all the other websites I have booked over three or so years.  Thank my lucky stars that FI is a computer programmer and always seems to save the day.  He was able to somehow find all of my bookmarks.  I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your documents too.  Hope you're enjoying that drink!  And vibes that the PC guys can help you tomorrow.
  • I feel ya on the boarding passes. I designed and completed mine last weekend and it took me forever to get them ready! And I'm sure mine weren't even half as nice as yours were. That really sucks hun! Keep us updated whether the computer techs can get it fixed for you.
  • Shelli, so sorry this all happened. I know I lost alot when they moved everything to my new work computer a few weeks ago. Fortunately, the guy on the phone in India was able to call the Microsoft specialist and they recovered my files from the previous week. I did loose stuff in the few days in the middle, but was lucky. Let us know how you make out and if we can help find websites or templates for you.
  • Oh Shelli! That just sucks! I'm so sorry... I don't know what else to say. I'm sure you will be able to create them again and everything will be peachy, but that's not the point right now! On the bright side, I know you will be able to do it again and everything will be peachy :) But for now you definitely need a drink!!
  • Don't worry!  They're probably not gone forever.  Even when you delete something it still has a magnetic signature somewhere on your hard drive. The faster you place a call, the more likely that these backup copies won't get over-written.
