Words of Wisdom??

I have been engaged for almost 2 years, we were going to get married this October 3, but due to the recent economy, my plans have been on HOLD! I just got my dress paid for, and begining to think this is NEVER going to happen! :( I am now re-thinking all of my wedding ideas to a more relaxed feeling. Should I settle for something small, backyard wedding? Or should I wait another 2 years and have the big wedding I want? I really just need some words of comfort and wisdom. My mom should be the one to be there for me, but she has her own problems, and we arent always on the same page, if you know what I mean. So please any words will help! Thoughts? Ideas? -thanks, kelly

    You are definitely not alone! I can relate to what you are going through.  Money is really tight right now and it's always tough when your family isn't as involved as you want them to be.  I think you should ask yourself what you really want.  If you really want to get married on October 3rd, then sit down with your fiancee and discuss how much everything will cost.  Lets be honest, there are so many expenses when it comes to weddings, but big weddings have an even bigger price tag.  Big elaborate weddings can be beautiful, but it is one day and then it is over. Perhaps you can cut costs on things such as party favors, or you could  supply your own liquor and appetizers. Sometimes the smaller, simpler ceremonies are more intimate, but it is YOUR choice.  If you and your fiance both decide that you'll have more money to spend in a few years and it would be smarter to wait then that is a decision that you should make together.  October 3rd is coming up quick.  Think about how you will feel about each decision looking back in hindsight, what will you be happiest with afterwards?  What will be more special for the two of you?  Good luck!

    You are having a wedding to celebrate your love for someone.  It doesn't matter how large or small as long as everyone important to you are involved.  Who wants to start their marriage in debt anyways?  Remember, you can always renew your vows in a big way when your marriage has it's financial footing.  Be happy that you have chosen each other.  Have a backyard wedding with one hellva party after.  Your guests will appreciate it.  You can also start a website where guests can put money towards your wedding any honeymoon if you already have enough homegoods, my friend did this and now has $1200 to put towards food and drink now.

    So long as you know your budget you can find some pretty great deals.  Everyone in this economy is hurt and some vendors are really will to negotiate.  You just need to take a step back and think about what you really want.  Is it the big wedding, or is it being a mrs?

    Sorry to hear about that. Just remember to take everyday as it come and relax. Things will happen no matter how prepared you are. One way to help with budget is to trim that guest list. What about diy projects? Sit down with fi and ask him what he wants, then plan what to do from there. Fi and I wanted to wait and plan this out, we both work and I attend school, so 2010 would have be a disaster for us.
