Hello! New to DW board - just starting to plan!!

Hello Ladies!  I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself as I've been lurking for a few weeks now.  Our DW is a world away (Feb 2011) but I want to start nailing down the major dets (picking a wedding date, picking a location) over the next few weeks.  There are so many great locations out there that I'm so overwhelmed with narrowing down our options!  We were originally thinking the Bahamas or Puerto Rico (I thought these were the most accessible from East Coast and Midwest where our families/friends are) but my TA suggested Mexico, which has obviously expanded our search.  How did you all know it was "the place" for your special day?? Thanks and look forward to getting to know you all!NB

  • Hi and Welcome to the board!! In my case we picked a trip we always wanted to make and then we chose the most convinient port to have the ceremony there. We are going on a cruise so the situation is a bit different than picking a resort. If you decide to go with Puerto Rico, let me know. I was born and lived in the Island until I was 25, so I might be able to help out with questions you might have. And another place to consider that's accesible from the east coast is the Dominican Republic, plus is very affordable...I'm sorry I'm not making it easier to narrow down, but I thought I should suggest it.Happy Planning!
  • Hi and welcome!! We chose Hawaii b/c we're on the west coast so it's easy to get to, we've never been, nobody will need a passport, and it's inexpensive (at least our trip/wedding will be)
  • Welcome!!!Picking a location can get overwhelming...I looked into everywhere from Sedona, AZ to the Blue Ridge Mountains, to FL...then we started expanding our search and had it down to either Mexico or Jamaica.  After a few week's of deliberating, a friend of mine finally asked me if we would rather have tequila and mariachi or rum and reggae...we opted for rum and reggae!  And that's how we chose Jamaica. The resort...we knew that we wanted an AI...and chose Sandals to pamper ourselves.  We can also transfer to other Sandals locations so we're marrying in Negril & honeymooning in Ocho Rios.  So that, in a nutshell, is how we chose our location.*Good luck with your planning!*
  • Welcome to the board!  Choosing our location was more work than I thought possible!  :)  We originally wanted Hawaii because my family has been there a few times and we love it but my Fi's family all live on the east coast so they weren't thrilled with that.  My FI suggested we look in the caribbean because he was living in Puerto Rico flying around the islands and loved it down there.  We choose Jamaica because we wanted an AI that accepted children (we have an almost 4 year old and 1 niece and 2 nephews we couldn't imagine not being there) and wasn't too expensive.  Plus my fi's brother had just went to a wedding at a resort in Jamaica and told us how beautiful it was.  So sorry to talk so much, but I guess it just comes down to what is important to you.  You could also look through other DW bios and get an idea of what the wedding will look like.

  • Welcome to the board!!We searched and searched and when we came across the Moon Palace Resort (Mexico) I had a physical reaction, the tears were flowing.  They have a stunning property and a wedding packages that I feel in love with!  I will tell you that this was also the hardest decision we made in our wedding, because of pricing/timing, we had to look at other options that I just didn't fall in love with like that.  Our TA helped us get a great rate on my dream resort but it was SUPER stressful until that deal was sealed ;)Good Luck!!
  • Welcome to the board!  It's true that picking a place is the hardest part.  I threw around every idea from the Carribean, to Europe, to the South Pacific.  Finally we chose Jamaica because we've never been, and I've always wanted to go.  It's hard, but once this decision is made the rest will somewhat fall into place.
