Name Change Kit?

So how exactly do you go about changing your name officially? Is this done after you get your marriage liscense? Do you just send a copy of your liscense to the places that will need it (passport, banks, etc)? Should I use the "name change kit" that I keep hearing about? If so, what's the best to use? We're going to go apply for the marriage liscense this week, and I heard not to change your name over until your back from your honeymoon, etc...because everything for our honeymoon is under my name now. Just confused...need some insight. :):)

Don't waste your $$$ on the name change kit.  You're right to wait until after your HM. Here are the typical steps...1.  Go to the Social Security Office with your identification and Marriage License (you may need an official copy of your license.  My office didn't require an official) and get a new card.2.  Go to Secretary of State and bring docs from SSO and ID.  You may need to wait a day or two to go after you go to the SSO so the change goes into the system.3.  Employment/Education Records.  Check with your place of work's or school's dept. who would handle.  My work only required my marriage license to change everything (including Health Insurance) and my school was even easier.4.  You should be able to change everything else as you wish.  I started with accounts such as Credit Cards, bills (DTE, Consumers, Mortgage, Insurance, etc.).  Some places are pickier than others and make you send a lot of documentation. That's it! Exactly what Suzie said.  Save your money.  The damn wedding industry tries to make money on everything and anything...Most other things you can figure out for yourself by google or just asking the bank or whatever.  I am in the process of changing my passport, so I just googled how to change your name on it and it will tell you exactly what you have to do.  Which is pay $75, mail in a form with your marriage license and your old passport.
