How much time for pictures??

I'm getting married April 9th at a church near my house at 3:30pm and the reception will be at The Manor. Originally they had the cocktail hour starting at 7:00 but we were able to move it up until 6:00 because we thought that that was too much time in between for our guests and I was worried about out of towners having to find something to do. We aren't doing a full mass so the ceremony should be over by 4:00 and I'd imagine we'd be out of there by 4:30-5 once the receiving line and pictures are done. Probably closer to 5. That only gives us an hour to get pictures done! Do you think that's enough time? My fiance is adamant about not missing the cocktail hour so I know once it starts he stops smiling for the camera! I wanted to try to go somewhere other than The Manor for pictures but we definitely won't have time if we only have an hour. Do you guys think we're better off moving it back to 7?

You're my date twin! I'm also getting married at The Manor!

First question, is your church near The Manor? Or is it a distance away? Because if you have a bit to drive then you might want to do pictures near your church. Also, how do you feel about doing photos before the ceremony? A lot of people do that so they don't have to miss their CH.

If you're worried about time, I would ask The Manor if they could move the CH back a half hour instead of a full hour. You don't want too much of a gap for you OOT guests.

If the church is near The Manor, you could do pictures at Verona Park since it's only about 5 mins away.

Ask your photographer.  Ours didn't take anywhere near an hour for photos.  Some take way longer.  Depends on your photog's style and how fast s/he moves.

YAY! Maybe I'll see you there! What room are you in? Did you move your reception time? The church is only 5 minutes away so that's exactly what I wanted to do... pictures at either Eagle Rock or Verona Park. We picked The Manor for the grounds though so I wouldn't mind having to take pictures there only if I have to.  I just really want to make sure we have enough time to get all the pictures I want. I'm really big on pictures... other than the husband, it's the only thing you get to keep when the wedding is over!  I didnt even think of pushing it back to 6:30. That would work and it would end later too. I thought ending at 11 on a Saturday was kinda early!

I definitely don't want to pictures before the wedding. I always love seeing the look on the groom's face when he sees the bride for the first time when she comes down the aisle at other people's weddings so I can't ruin that moment for myself! haha

Also, this is way off topic, but did you hear they changed their menu?

We're downstairs in the Regency Room. Which room are you? We're actually having our ceremony there on the grounds. Fingers crossed for a nice day! Our ceremony starts at 6:30. So maybe I'll see you floating around! LOL! We're actually going to do photos at Verona Park before the ceremony that way we can enjoy the CH too!

Whose your photographer? And who have you been working with at The Manor? We're working with Rolf. I love him! He's been great!

No I didn't hear about the menu! I don't know if that's good or bad?! I do know that my room has a new dance floor though and they re-did the rugs too!

My sisters all got married in that room! Fingers definitely crossed for a good day! The Manor was beautiful this year on April 9th. The trees lining the driveway were in full bloom. I just wish they got the tulips out a week earlier! Oh well... We're using Milton Gil for a photog. What about you? We've been working with James. He's pretty good. I haven't been too inquisitive yet though so I can't judge just yet! Someone on here posted that they added Filet Mignon and Prime Rib though. I just might have to call to see about that!

Sorry to butt in, speidelm, that was me!  I was told by a fellow Knottie who's getting married there this month that when she went in for one of her last meetings they told her they had changed the menu.  I went online to see if the new menu had been posted and it had.

The cocktail hour options are somewhat different (for the better, in my opinon) and there are some new options and pricing for dinner.

I know what you mean! I hope April this year is as beautiful as it was last April. We're working with Josh Lynn as our photographer. I've worked with him in the past and he's great. I know what you mean about not being to inquisitive yet, but the questions I've had I get responses right away. Or if I stop by it's never been a problem.

Oh Filet Mignon! My FI would be so thrilled! LOL!

    So which room are you?

Not butting in at all! Thanks for responding! Do you know if we can chose from the new menu at the price we booked at?

I believe so (the other knottie didn't say anything to the contrary).  However, the new menus do make mention of some price changes for special additions like lobster during the CH, the lemon sorbet intermezzo, and filet mignon during dinner.

Just looked! It does look better! I have to say I wasn't thrilled about Chateaubriand. I don't like sauces and stuff on beef. I'm so excited!

jrgoo- We're in the Virginian Room. The room to the right when you walk in!

  • edited December 2011
I agree about the chateaubriand.  When FI and I tried it we didn't think it was too appetizing (which surprised us since everything else there tastes so good) and we hated the fact that it was sliced so thin.  I'm guessing you saw my other post asking about their prime rib, but no one ever responded.  I hope the prime rib is better... we'd love to have filet mignon but can't afford the additional cost.

PS - The Virginia room was our second choice!  We went back and forth a hundred times between that room and the Imperial.

Oh awesome! We looked into that room too! I kind of like the idea of having the downstairs to ourselves, but I loved the cocktail area in the Virginia Room!
  • edited December 2011
We LOVED the Imperial room but it was booked until May 28th and there was a pretty significant price difference between April and May! We actually had a contract written up for that room in May, but when it came down to it, I wanted April  over May and it wasn't worth the extra money just to get in that room...  I love the downstairs room too, but we were too big.

Ugh, yeah.  We really wanted to get married on Sunday of the July 4th weekend, but all of the rooms except downstairs were booked and we were too large for downstairs as well.

Then we were hoping for a Saturday in July but the price difference between Saturday and Sunday was HUGE, so we wound up going with Sunday after FI convinced me that at least his entire side would stay the whole time and get drunk regardless, haha.

Are either of you going to ask for any special extras or "instead-ofs" from The Manor?  Instead of having champagne handed out to each guest at the start of cocktail hour we're going to see if we can have mango mojitos handed out instead.  And we also want to find out if we can replace one or two of the CH items from the hot buffet with empanadas and coconut shrimp (our favorites).

I'm definitely going to see if we can get some extras thrown in. We had them throw in a martini ice slide, but now after seeing the menu I'm hoping they'll work with us on that. This is the third wedding my parents have had here and they wouldn't budge on the price but said they would work with us on upgrades so I'm hoping they do!
  • edited December 2011
Oh wow!  Yeah, did you see the new menu says they have a variety of flavored martinis?  I don't think that was there originally.  Do you know if they serve any type of frozen drinks?

Good to know... thanks!  I wish I could just email them every time I have a question, but Rolf hates using email and we play phone tag constantly.

Hi speidelm - I have the exact same problem- I actually posted I think Monday about this- mixed answers that it was rude to guests or to do it so Im not stressed. My feeling is there is a gap no matter what since I am having a Catholic mass and that is the most important thing to me. My phtog says he needs an hour for pics and we are doing some family ones at the church after so I am really stressing that we are going to miss part of the CH and since we are paying a ton for this, I dont want to miss a minute of it. I kinda feel like what is an extra 30 min for people waiting if they were waiting anyway (or church is at 2:30 right now and I was considering moving it to 2). Ive been to many weddings where the church was at 2 and cocktail hr at 6pm and it wasnt a big deal, so I'm still debating this.

I actually asked Rolf if they could do Signature drinks, so he suggested FI pick one and I pick one. We just have to let them know when we go over the menu so that they can make sure tey have what they need. I'm thinking maybe instead of champagne asking for Sangria. Definitely want to add a bit of Spanish flavor to the mix! LOL.

Also, we aren't getting our cake from them and I personally don't like ice sculptures so we're going to ask if we can do the Filet instead of the Chauteubriand.
  • edited December 2011
Did they take anything off for not doing your cake?
  • edited December 2011
Sangria sounds good, too!  We were between mango mojitos and sangria and decided to ask about the mojitos.  Maybe we should do a taste test to see which they make best before deciding, haha!

I asked during our first meeting if we could get a price cut by not having their in-house cake, and I was told that all they could do was throw in something extra.

Haha don't apologize! I'm getting married there too so I like it!! We used our coin for my fiance's birthday in May. He LOVES the all you can eat seafood buffet so we went to that. I feel like I didn't get to taste a lot of the things that would be on our menu, but the food was good and I trust them to get it right on our wedding day!
  • edited December 2011
Oh that's great! I have no worries about the food at all for our wedding. Whenever people ask where we are having our wedding and we say The Manor, the first thing we hear about is how fantastic the food is!

Speidelm-I feel like we should have a photo op the day of! Wedding day GTG! LOL!
