POLL: Too chicken to register for ___________?

Here's the question. Is there anything you really wish that someone would get you that you're too chicken to register for? What is it and why are you scared to register for it? I'll start - I REALLY wish I could register for the new Beatles Rock Band game that's coming out next week! FI and I would totally love it, but we've only registered at housewares stores and I feel like people would think we're being greedy or something.

A dyson or a new TV. No one will buy them for me because of the price most likely.  But I want a Dyson sooooo bad ;)

FI wants to register for a digital SLR but I'm pretty sure we won't be doing that... Even though I want one too! Also, do you think its out of the question to register for big ticket items such as a couch from C&B?  We're contemplating doing this but I don't know if its greedy or not.

i wanted a dyson, but the price is crazzzy! so i decided to registry for a different vacuum. I got the vacuum and it's actually really awesome, so I don't care that I didn't get a dyson. I also wanted really nice knives, but those things are pricey. So we registered for cheaper ones.

I know what you mean on the knives! That's the one thing we really need right away. I would really like the super pricey Wusthof ones because they are supposedly amazing and last forever. But every time I've seen those on a registry I've thought to myself, "there's no way I'm going to send someone one $80 knife as their gift" and bought something else. And the sets of those are as pricey as a Dyson! So we registered for less expensive knives, too.

We registered for several big ticket items and had no qualms about it. I already had "okay" pots and pans, so when we registered for new ones, we picked the ones we really wanted even though they were somewhat expensive. We registered for the set as well as the individual pieces. We had a few people purchase individual pieces and we received lots of gift cards (which is what I was hoping for) so in the end I returned the pans I had received and was able to get my entire set.

I think as long as you have some lower priced items on your registry there's nothing wrong with putting expensive items on it too. You never know what people will do. Your aunts might pool all their money together to get you that sofa. It can't hurt to put it on there.

Regarding the C&B sofa - they send you a completion coupon after the wedding so if you think it's something you'll want/be able to purchase for yourself I'd definitely put it on there so you can get the discount.

Okay cool. Thanks for the input! And Kellybeth, I don't blame you, we'll be registering for the pots and pans that we want.  Luckily Calphalon has a lifetime guarantee :)

Yeah, we registered for a few bigger ticket things, too, but usually things that we thought folks might nevertheless buy. I just knew that the knives might be a harder sell because I'd been so unwilling to buy them as a guest.

We registered for most stuff we wanted even if it was pricey. We figured there was no harm. And I don't think it's bad to put a sofa on there. Last year my cousin registered for a dining room table and chairs from C&B, and all my aunts and uncles put their money together and got her a gift card to cover the cost of it. You never know what people will do.

laptop......mountain bike......camcorder...... downpayment for HOUSE i would never dream of putting these things on my registry and FI seems to think it is okay and that his family wont care about the $$$ but it still makes me uncomfortable and i know my family cant afford these things. his friends put really $$ things on thier registries and got them so he thinks its okay for us to do the same.

I already own a dyson, and if you have a dog that sheds like mine does, it is worth every penny! I bought mine on woot.com though, for cheaper, but IMO it's worth the full price. I really haven't been scared to register for things. This is one time in your life when people are going to buy it for you, and if you go for the good stuff, it's going to last you a lifetime. Do you need a full knife set? No. Anyone who cooks well will tell you that. Do you need a super awesome versatile chef's knife? Absolutely, and it's worth the splurge.

Yeah, I'm not scared to register for housewares, even pricier ones, although we did go with cheaper knives because we thought we might GET them and we need them. It's the sort of "fun" stuff that people register beyond housewares that I'm scared of.

We registered for stuff we want - cheap and expensive. We have $2 corn holders and a $300 Calphalon cookware set. Register for what you want. People will buy what they can afford. The worst that could happen is you won't get the expensive stuff.

We registered for several big ticket items w/no regrets and we’ve actually gotten a lot of them!  My biggest thing was my kitchen aid mixer, which I absolutely don’t regret.  We got our Wustof knives the other week – FI was soo happy he was like a little kid on his birthday.  We actually did register for furniture – we did a bar type piece for our butler’s pantry and I hear that FIs grandmother’s going to get it for us.  Don’t be afraid to register for what you want.  Worse comes to worse you get GCs and can put them towards your big ticket items.

lusher - i am in the same boat!  i bought a dyson when i bought my townhouse.  with 2 dogs, there was really no question! i got the floor model of the dyson animal when they were selling the new year's model.  it was a great deal.  just do it like car shopping, the dealers want to get rid of the old stuff for the new!

I went ahead and registered for what I wanted. A Dyson, board games, Rock Band. I figured my friends might be more apt to get me the fun things! I say do it. The most people can do is say "No, I am going to get her something else."

I DID register for the new Beatles Rock Band Edition.  We are registered at Target and Macy's and so I just added it at Target.  Anyone who knows us really well knows that it's something we will use all the time.  I definitely felt silly adding it to our registry, but one of my guy friends told me that guys would rather get a gift like a video game than a picture frame!I always go for the random gifts when I attend a wedding so I feel it's appropriate for me.  You should add it on!!!

My friend registered for 2 Dysons and got both!! My financee and I have been living together for a while. We registered for All-Clad pans, Le Creuset, and a couple $200 appliances. If you don't get them you might get a discount depending on where you are registered. I say register for what you want... no matter the cost.
