Rehearsal Dinner Location

Do I have to have the rehearsal dinner in the same area as the wedding rehearsal? We are getting married at the Nahant Country Club, but I would prefer to have the dinner in the Boston/Cambridge area (where we live). I would also love any suggestions for restaurants that are in or near Nahant as I am not familiar with the area. Thanks!

I think it's most considerate of your guests to have your RD near where they will actually be rehearsing.

...not if you're not rehearsing at your venue! OR: ...not if everyone else involved is going back to Boston/Cambridge for the night anyway, too!

Yeah I agree it depends on where everyone lives and what time the rehearsal is. There is a great restuarant not too far from  Nahant (Swampscott) called the Red Rock Bistro - http://www.redrockbistro.com/the website is a little cheesy but they have great food and a killer view of the bay.

What about Anthony's Pier 4 in Swampscott? It's very close to Nahant and has beautiful views of the water.

Red Rock or Anthony's would both be awesome RD locations in Swampscott. We actually considered having ours there even though the rehearsal was in Boston b/c my husband is from Swampscott and those places are both gorgeous, right on the water with awesome views (they are right next to each other.) If you do decide to go to Boston, we had our RD at Sonsie's and loved it. Plus, we had an afterparty at a bar on Boylston Street that lasted til all hours of the night and was so much fun - our guests loved being to go out in the city after.

Our rehearsal is at our venue in Quincy and we're having the rehearsal dinner at Skipjacks in Boston.  We didn't want guests to have to stay in Quincy the whole time they're here.  Plus, Skipjacks is down the street from our house so we figured if people wanted to come by afterward this would be the time.

I agree with keb, we made our RD as close to the venue as possible.  I wanted to minimize travel time for our guests.  Are you also going to provide transportation into the city or will RD guests have to pay for parking?  Can they take the T?  Where are they staying?

Anthony's down the Cape is great for functions.  My dad use to take his law firm there every summer for their big dinner when they took everyone to the Cape for the weekend.  We had our RD at Anthony's Pier 4 in Boston and it was great! Gorgeous views - perfect location - they took care of the centerpieces which were really pretty - and my MIL was very happy with them.

I agree with PPs. The RD should be near the place where you're rehearsing.... unless you want to provide transportation, that is...

We had ours at Craigie on Main in Cambridge. It was amazing. Staff certainly knows how to treat a gal. :)

I think we'll end up having the RD in the Nahant area for sure. It just seems easier and I would feel bad making guests travel all around (even though most live in the Boston area, there are some that don't). Thanks for all of your comments!
