Order of reception

We're getting married 11/1/09 and I'm trying to put together the order of things for the reception. I'm thinking we'll be introduced during the cocktail hour (so we can enjoy and mingle). Once that is over and everyone sits down, what happens next, the motzi? Is there a prayer over a glass of wine (can't recall the name)? And, then are toasts usually done, or do people start eating first. Then, when is the horrah (before or after dinner), and is that before or after the couple's first dance? I'm so confused, any help is very very appreciated. TIA

there is no rule as to the order, but i'll post what i did if that helps :)we did join in the happy hour after yichud, but we were not introduced until after the happy hour once our guests had been seated.after we were introduced we went straight into our first dance and following that straight into a hora.then everyone sat down and the motzi was said.  we did not do the prayer over the wine.toasts weren't done until later during the night, I believe during dinner but I can't remember exactly.hth!

We were introduced into the reception when everyone was seated. We then went straight into the Horah. It was so much fun great way to start the party. We then sat down and did the motzi and started eating. Then our first dance, speeches, parent dances. We did the main course and party. There is no specific way you have to do it. Talk to your band leader or dj they will know. and talk to the Rabbi and coordinator if you have one.

I was told my the rabbi that you don't do the kiddush (prayer over the wine) The band leader got upset because we had originally planned on doing it and last minute we took it out.

There is no blessing over wine, the blessing (and drinking of the wine) having already been done at the ceremony.  If you do the blessing after the meal, you'll have wine then - but that's towards the end of the night. My tentative timeline is as follows:  (1) introduction and first dance, then hora (possibly followed by mother-son dance, though I'd like to do this later); (2) everyone sits and hamotzi is done; (3) as the first course is served, MOH and BM speech; (4) after dinner, mother-son dance (we aren't doing father-daughter), which will then officially lead to dancing for the evening until cake time. GL.
