Laura Witherow has been so much fun to work with.  Plus her prices were very good when we booked with her last year.

McTeague Photography travels all over the Chicagoland area. She does a great job at connecting with the bride and leaving more as a part of the wedding than a vendor.

Hi, unfortunately, we have had a different experience with Nora, and we wouldn't recommend her.

As of today’s date (March 23, 2011), it’s been almost three years, and we still haven’t received our wedding photos.  We’ve been trying to contact Nora for the last three years but she won’t return any of our calls or emails.

My husband and I were married on May 24, 2008.  We hired Nora in February of that year.  At that time she had a special  offer – if you paid in full, then she would throw in an extra photographer and I think like a couple hundred dollars worth of photo credit or something to that effect.  Well, we went ahead and paid in full, which looking back now, perhaps we shouldn’t have because when it came time to wanting to see and receive our photos in a timely manner, we had given all of our leverage away.

In the beginning, things were going well with Nora.  She kept in communication, was on time for our wedding and brought another photographer.  We started to have concerns two weeks after our wedding.

She had posted our photos online (total count of 1,599 images) but she had literally done just only that – posted the photos without seeming to have gone through to put them in chronological order, delete any blurry photos or delete seeming repeats (similar images).  More obvious than that, we noticed that there were only like three pictures of the reception.  We emailed Nora and let her know that the reception photos were missing and if she could take the time to put them in chronological order.

She responded by posting the reception photos but we noted that she had removed some of the wedding photos because the total count of images was still 1,599, and the images were still out of order.

When asked about this, she said she would post all photos and in order.  Two months later, nothing changed. And still, some of the photos posted were duplicates/similar and/or blurry.

Now remember, we did pay her in full, right from the start, but now wedding season was in full swing.  So we surmised that she wasn’t prioritizing us anymore because she was busy with other couples and well, as I said, we had given all our leverage away – she had all our money and our wedding photos.  There was no reason for her to rush or provide quality service.

Thankfully, though, we had paid with our credit card via PayPal.  We contacted Nora to let her know that we were considering filing a BBB report and reversing the credit card charges.  We didn’t hear from her (her communication with us had already started to lessen).  So we made the decision by the end of July to go ahead and have the credit card charges reversed.

Well, that got her attention right away, and she was obviously not pleased.

Her response via email (seems to be her preferred mode of communication) was, "If I am not going to get paid then that makes me less motivated to spend more time, money, and energy on your pictures."

Obviously this response didn’t make a lot of sense to us since we had paid her in full before and that didn’t seem to encourage her to work on our pictures.  And, in reality, we actually still want to pay her because in the end, we just want our photos.

Initially, my husband and I were still trying to negotiate for the disk of photos and the wedding album by saying we would pay half when we received the disk and then the other half when we received the album, but her inconsistent communication, if any, forced us to make things simple – we now only want the disk of all photos at an agreed amount of $750.  We offered to pay half up front and the other half when we received the disk.  Nora, however, wanted to be paid with a cashier’s check in full right from the start, which we didn’t feel comfortable with – that was around December 2008.  She stopped returning our calls and emails completely after that.  However, we still continue to try.

You’re probably wondering why we’re writing a review now…like why didn’t we write it earlier?  I guess when you’re in the midst of conflict, you’re just trying hard to resolve it, and in the meantime, life still continues (e.g.: we bought a house, moved, etc.).  Also, we’re not big on negativity, so I guess we were hoping we wouldn’t have to go this route.

Also, we’ve had a baby since then, so life’s been pretty hectic.  And now, in the end, we just want the disk of photos for our daughter.  This whole process has been/is frustrating and infuriating, and we believe we’ve maintained our professionalism in our communications with her (we still have all our emails to/with her).  We’ll continue to hope and try, though.  We’ll update this post if anything changes.

P.S.  Our wedding took place in California because Nora used to be based in Los Angeles, but has since moved to the Mid West.
