Poll: Name changing

It's been a while since this was brought up and I'm curious to see what everyone else is doing1. Are you (did you) change your name or are keeping your own or hyphenating or double last name?2. If you are changing or adding, what's the new sequence your name? i.e. First, Middle, His Last or First Maiden His Last?3. Does your FI or DH have any strong feelings about your name change?4. After you are married are you being annouced as Mr and Mrs His Last? Or someother announcement?5. Does your family have any traditions for the women's last name?

I'm still undecided :(1. Are you (did you) change your name or are keeping your own or hyphenating or double last name? I'm leaning towards the double last name so I can keep my last name for my job and use his for everything else. 2. If you are changing or adding, what's the new sequence your name? i.e. First, Middle, His Last or First Maiden His Last?First, Middle, His Last My Last3. Does your FI or DH have any strong feelings about your name change? FI is okay with me keeping or changing or adding to my last name.4. After you are married are you being annouced as Mr and Mrs His Last? Or someother announcement? This is still tbd. If we don't decide it'll be something like "here's the bride and groom - Roxanne and Michiel"5. Does your family have any traditions for the women's last name? My family doesn't, my sisters have both changed their last name. His family, the woman usually hypenate with Husbands last-Maiden last.

I was undecided up until the wedding day... and when I still couldn't bring myself to take his name, I realized I just needed to keep mine. It's so much a part of my identity that I didn't feel right giving it up.

    1. I am changing mine to his last name2. First, Middle, His last name3. We have never really sat down and had a serious talk about last name changing, but he does call me mrs, his last name a lot lately4. Mr and Mrs His last name5. Since there is a boy in my family our last name will continue on, so my family is fine with me taking his last name. My last name is a huge part of me, but honestly I really don't like it, so I'm cool with a new one!

    1. I changed my last name to his2. First, Maiden, His Last (though if you asked my middle name, I would still say my middle name, not my maiden name)3. He didn't really care.  He may have thought it was strange if I didn't, but I don't think it would have been a dealbreaker.4. Mr. & Mrs. His Last Name5. My maiden name is a pretty common last name.  I guess maybe if my family had a unique or meaningful last name it would have been different, but my family definitely expected me to change it.

    1. Taking his last name 2. First, Middle, His Last 3. No--he's always known I can't wait to change my name.  I HATE my last name.  I've always wanted a common last name b/c I get so sick of mine being misspelled or mispronounced.  His is Rodriguez--so I guess I got my wish--it's pretty common! 4. Mr. and Mrs. His Last 5. Nope.  I think my older sister kept her maiden name as a second middle name.  But again, I can't wait to shed mine.  :)

It's been a while since this was brought up and I'm curious to see what everyone else is doing1. Are you (did you) change your name or are keeping your own or hyphenating or double last name? Keeping my name -- I always knew I could never change it. Its just part of me :) Our last names are both too long to hyphenate.2. If you are changing or adding, what's the new sequence your name? i.e. First, Middle, His Last or First Maiden His Last? Same name that my parents gave me.3. Does your FI or DH have any strong feelings about your name change? FI has always known that about me and doesn't mind. 4. After you are married are you being annouced as Mr and Mrs His Last? Or someother announcement? Not sure yet...since I won't be "Mrs. FI Last Name" I'm not sure how we will be announced?5. Does your family have any traditions for the women's last name? I wish my last name was something like Cooper or Campbell so it could be a child's first name. My name is too long and german and definitely would not work!

Ahhhh Snarling Fox... I believe we had this conversation in person right before I left for Hawaii... I was still undecided but I have made my decision! 1.  I am keeping my last name 2.  Same as always - First, Middle, My Maiden 3.  FI was a little bummed cause he was excited about the idea of me taking his last name but he completely understands how important my last name is to me.  It's important to me professionally... and especially after moving overseas and getting a TON of military related accounts in my last name, I have NO desire to redo all of those documents.  I told FI that I have no problem if people refer to us as "Mr. and Mrs. His Last Name" though. 4.  You know, I haven't really thought about that.  I guess I need to figure this one out.  But it definitely won't be Mr. and Mrs. His Last Name. 5.  Most of the women in my family have kept their last name (and they were quite surprised that I was thinking about taking his being that I am so proud of my last name).  In FI's family, all the women took their husband's name. I like what you've decided Snarling Fox.  :)  I'm just glad we both figured this out since I know we were both tossing ideas back and forth about this issue.

    1. Are you (did you) change your name or are keeping your own or hyphenating or double last name? I took his last name but considering hyphenating or using my name for work and his for personal... but when it came down to it at the marriage license office she said it's either your last name or his so I just said his! And I'm happy I did it but it did take some time to adjust to it :)2. If you are changing or adding, what's the new sequence your name? i.e. First, Middle, His Last name3. Does your FI or DH have any strong feelings about your name change? He hinted that he would be very happy if I took his last name4. After you are married are you being announced as Mr and Mrs His Last? Or some other announcement? Mrs and Mrs his last name5. Does your family have any traditions for the women's last name? No

This does not completely follow the etiquette of answering each question, but it is a funny story about the topic. So my last name is McFarland and my FI's last name is Friedman. I suggested that I change my name to McFriedman (I was joking, but acting serious). FI became so upset with the idea. He said I could keep my name, I could hyphenate the two, but I absolutely couldn't be McFriedman. Well... now it has become the funniest joke that most of my family and friends are in on. We joke about it all the time, and you can see that he gets frustrated. I told him that I google'd the last name and nothing came up, so I tried to explain that we would be starting a brand new family tree. I think its hilarious - he does not!! From now on, just call me McFriedman ;)
