Not changing your name?

Re: Not changing your name?

• Confession: I changed mine, really regretted it, and then changed it back again. I tried to make my maiden name a second middle name and be First Middle Maiden HisLast, but when the middle and maiden were left off everywhere, I realized that I really hated being called just First HisLast. DH's last name is super common, as is my first name, and I liked them both when my maiden name was in the middle. But when everyone from my employer to my school to the BMV shortened it to just first and last name, I felt like an anonymous nobody - essentially a Jane Doe. So I went back and hyphenated my maiden name with DH's last name and I feel much, much better about my decision. I still have his last name but now I still feel like me at the same time.
• I'm not changing mine.  I think it's a sexist practice--not judging those who change their names, just my opinion.  I've worked hard to get where I am & all my degrees and professional licenses are in my name.  I'm not changing it at this point in my career.  Andplusalso, the second syllable of my first name rhymes with his one syllable last.
• I was going to change it to his legally and keep my maiden name professionally. However the visa I work on in the US is in my maiden name and I was strongly advised not to change my name by my company. Mistakes often happen with visas and changing my name partway through the process only increases the odds of delay causing mistake with my name.
• Not changing mine- 2 reasons, (1) giant pain in but to change name and FI and I are both worrried that it will create major problems for me professionally and at work- I have been practicing law for 13 years and (2) I kinda like my name :) so I won't change it until and unless we have children
• oops, sorry, I will go by Mrs. FI but technically I am not changing my name
• My plan is to hypenate it, but FB is as far as I've gotten (it's been a month). I'm considering just keeping it. I have a PhD and it just seems like way too much hassle to change it. We'll see :-)
• Keeping or hyphenating. Depends on how he feels closer to the time
