At Home Reception Question

I know many of you are planning an ahr, but is anyone actually having the reception in their home?  Am I crazy to try to do that?  I wanted a relaxed event to celebrate with close friends & family who are not able to make the trip.......Any advice on wording for the AHR?

Re: At Home Reception Question

  • I think I am going to start calling ours an at home party :) We are doing it at my ffil's house. He has been doing some awesome landscaping. We will be having caterers take care of the food.

  • I am doing an AHR at my home. I also wanted a more relaxed atmosphere. It will be more of a party/celebration. We will do a dj for music, food, drinks, etc. I will then share my video and pics with my family and friends since my FI and I are doing an elopement type wedding. I hope some of helps.
  • We are calling it a "wedding celebration" because it is not a "reception".  It is a catered bbq at my parents house, which has a big deck and yard.  HTH!

  • We too are having ours at home. We called it a "Celebration BBQ" We'll have lots of BBQ food and alcohol. Totally not a classic reception.
  • I also wanted a laid back atmosphere (hence the destination wedding in the first place).  Since the reception will be in the winter and I live in MN, an outdoor reception is not possible for me......Thank goodness we just bought a house.  I'm concerned that we won't be able to fit everyone.....How many people are each of you inviting to your celebration?
  • Well, we live in Oregon and the weather is never guaranteed, one of the things I LOVE about this state. I would think we will invited no more than MAYBE 75. I would rather not have an "after party" but I feel terrible that my grandma won't be able to see me walk down the aisle, so it really is all for her!

  • My parents are hosting our AHR in their backyard - but we are calling the "the big ol' party..."  As for # of ppl, we have a little over 300 on the list right now.  Most are my family or people my parents have put on the list.  I told FMIL there was no limit, but I think she is still worried about offending me or my mom.  Our only problem is parking and bathrooms... We just want to have a fun party.  We'll have bbq, beer, wine, sides, cake (b/c both me and my mother want to do cake tastings all over town!!!) - volleyball, cornhole (for those up north), music, etc.  Very much like a graduation party...
