Holey crap *happy dance*

I got something in the mail from my credit union and ignored it. I figured it was tax info for the money that I had in that account earlier. Well DH opened it...I have over $900 in that account! We have been pinching pennies hardcore to pay for my school, this will be a huge help.

It gets better... This reminded me that about 6 months ago I realized that I had over $900 in the credit union and did a happy dance. Guess I forgot to take it out, I'll be heading to the CU tomorrow!

  • Heh, that kind of takes the feeling of finding five bucks in an old winter coat to a WHOLE new level.
  • How does someone NOT REALIZE (or forget for that matter) that they have $1800 just hanging out in random places?
  • It wasnt $1800, it was $900... forgotten twice. Embarassed

I think it was money that my dad gave me towards the wedding. I don't make enough to forget $900!

  • One of our doctors at the hospital I work for was getting overpaid- she stepped into a new role, and continued receiving payment for the old position in addition to her new payment.

Two years later, payroll realised, and she now has to arrange to repay them $250,000. I know that the doctors make a lot and probably aren't watching every penny, but seriously- how could you not notice receiving an excess $250k, even if it was spread out over two years?

  • sun---is it wrong that I slightly wish something along those lines would happen to me? That I made sooooo much money, that an extra $250k didn't make me flinch? That would be great.

  • Oh to have the finances to not realize I have so much extra money I could PAY CASH FOR A FRICKIN HOUSE just sitting in my account when it shouldn't be.
  • spend wisely, my friend.
  • Lol. DH just asked me to ask my mom if we can borrow a vacuum until we get enough money to buy one. All the money I 'found' is going to my books and living expenses! Still poor!

  • Yeah, it was insane. She claimed that she didn't notice, but god, I would hate to see how much money was just chilling out in her account if that were the case.

  • I can't even imagine. On the flip side... how did it take 2 years to realize that such a significant amount of money was missing?

  • Ha, no, I'm talking about the 250,000... Especially in THIS area it would be a really nice house too.

Posted by EmmaBride2B[/QUOTE]

That is a big question. How did no one notice that this person was receiving two pay packets each week? I daresay it's got something to do with our hideous payroll that has ridiculously high turnover.

The media was asking the same question, though, when it was leaked to the press a week or so ago!

  • awesome! I'm jealous!!! sucks you still can't have fun with it though. :(

sun, I love the word "dodgy" in the Queen's English.

$250K will buy a stinkin' nice house in Houston. I"m talking like 4-5 bedrooms, 3-4 baths, 2 living rooms, a bigass kitchen and at least a 1/4 acre lot.

  • Referring to what sun said, my mom got extra money from her insurance company for a procedure she had done. Even though they covered the procedure, they reimbursed her for it. She called them and told them that she wasn't owed anything and asked how to give the money back. They told her it was indeed hers and that she should keep it.

She put it in a CD and figured that until they realize that it's gone, she'd at least make some interest on it. I think it was about 3k or so. She fully expects to have to give it back some day.

Eh, she's saving it for retirement. I'm sure if she needs it somewhere down the line, she'll use it, but she didn't want to spend it and then have to dig up an unexpected 3k a few years later.
