Getting down to the dress

O.k. I've spent hours and hours on this computer looking at dress designers and their collections. I know I want either strapless or spaghetti straps, and some type of train. The catch is it has to have a corsett back! I remember my fi mentioning how much he liked this at a previous wedding we went to. I want white and I don't plan on downsizing just because it is a beach wedding. I'm going to get whatever I like best. I've looked at all of Maggie Sottero's gowns, and the other Knot designer suggestions. I love Maggie but I just can't put my finger on "the one". Do you girls have any other ideas? This has been the toughest part of planning for me.

Re: Getting down to the dress

  • Have you been able to go try on any designs yet?  Maggie does make some beautiful dresses (i.e. my dress too!).  I guess it depends on what type of style you want.  Do you want lace, satin, silk, etc.  Embellishments or more plain?  It would def make a difference if you go try them on, because I completely nixed like 15 diff styles because they just didn't fit my body.
  • I suggest you go try them on. And remember that if you like one without the corset back, it can always get added depending on the dress. I'm having my seamstress add the corset to my dress.
  • I was in the same boat.  Honestly, go to a boutique that carry's Maggie dresses and try some on.  I wasn't going to try the dress on that I got, but the lady made me (she obviously knew what she was talking about).  And I LOVE IT.
  • Another thing to consider... I was told my dress will take 7-8 months to come in.  I ordered it in August and my Wedding is in May and it's going to be very close.
  • I guess my best piece of advise for you here is to get off the computer and get in the store.  I knew exactly what I wanted when I went to the store (I had to have straps and I wanted a sheath dress... look at my dress).  I'm just saying that I researched it all so well, and I bought a dress that I LOVE that was nothing like I planned.  I wanted lace, I do not have ANY lace!  Plus I was really surprised what I looked like in some of the dresses.  Go with an open mind, but tell them what you think you would like, but try on stuff they suggest too.  You will be pleasantly surprised.  The girl helping me picked out my dress and they second I walked out I knew it was the one.  Good luck!  And have fun!

  • I agree with PPs - definitely go and try things on.  It's amazing how what you think you want will change once you put things on.  I thought I wanted a halter (I LOVE pinklori's dress and wanted something similar) and found that a strapless (something that I was 95% positive I DID not want) form-fitted top dress was the most flattering.  Totally hysterical because it was the dress I never thought I wanted.
  • I agree with everyone else. You just got to go out there and start trying stuff on. I originally wanted an Angelina Faccenda dress, but they didn't carry them where I live, so I decided to just go try on everything... I found the Mori and loved it, but it was much different than the original style I was looking at. Once I started trying on styles that I was looking at, I realized they didn't really fit my body type as well and weren't "bride" enough for me.
