Piggybacking: China or Plastic

Hey Ladies!  I saw Ms. Thompson's post about the plastic or china and I have been trying to decide on a similar issue.  Our caterer has convinced my fiance (and me, I guess) that if we switch to plastics AFTER dinner that it won't be bootleg and we would save a ton of money.  Our catering budget came in much lower than we expected with this change.  Basically, after dinner, all glassware, china and silverware will be taken away and then everything will be served in/on plastics (the only food item to be served on plastics will be the cake).Our wedding is in an outdoor pavilion at an old amusement park...so its not a grand formal event or anything...but I have this distaste for the plastics idea, although its going to save us $$$.  Like some of you said, its just not elegant to me...Do you guys think anyone will even notice the change?  I was thinking of agreeing to it, but making sure we still have wine glasses (I just cannot bring myself to make my guests drink wine out of plastic cups) and maybe serving the beer in the bottles and just having the plastic cups for soda/sangria.  You guys think people will think its bootleg that the cake will be served on plastic plates (the nice clear plastic plates) and forks?What do you guys think?

    I personally think that it would be okay and Hayle by the time cake is being served people are going to be too drunk anyway! LOL!!! Like Cat said in the other post, in a perfect world everyone would use china! You are already hooking the dinner up with the best.

    i had the same dilemma for my wedding and my caterer told me that i should not stress getting caught up in those tiny little details when i asked her about the same thing.  she told me that she catered a wedding for a couple with a $45,000 budget and they did acrylic plates for their reception.  and i'm sure that was not low class or ghetto.  and she said if the guests think that they are too good to eat on that, then they have the issue and it's nothing i should worry myself over.  so since it would've saved us money too, we did acrylic plates for appetizers and cake and china for everything else.  and nobody turned up their noses, but many of those people have seen plasticware at weddings before too, so it's no surprise. also, only the people who want to plan a wedding or are planning weddings will probably pay attention to all the details of the event.  the average wedding guest does not. and 2 months from your wedding, nobody will even remember if they ate on plastic or china. but unfortunately, you two as a couple will remember that from the bank account...lol...it's whatever is best for the couple and nobody is to judge that. also, no matter what you do, those types of people will always have something negative to say, so might as well not break your budget b/c if it's not the china that people will think is bootleg, they may say something else is bootleg.  that's why i say do what makes you happy- whatever's more convenient and/ or inexpensive.  JMO...

    Thanks for the reassurance Ladies!  I think I just get caught up looking at these blogs and wedding shows...and I forget what its really about sometimes.  although...I still cannot budge on the wine glasses...LOL
