Heels or flats?

I'm several inches taller than my fiance and I really enjoy wearing heels. He can sometimes feel uncomfortable if I tower over him (I'm 5'11" and he's 5'8" then add heels...). Should I wear flats or just a smaller heel??

Thanks!!

Re: Heels or flats?

  • I would compromise and do a small heel - like a 1". It's still a heel but not so much that it would alter your height too much. Good luck!

  • Since you say he sometimes feel uncomfortable about your height difference, I would go with flats if I was in your position, just for the one day. But you can always talk to him about it and see what he says.
  • Your shoes aren't going to be seen that much really, so I would probably opt for the flats so that FI is as comfortable as possible.

  • i my FI is a few inches taller than me too, and i am going for flats. but again i agree with a pp and talk to your FI to see where he is more comfortable
  • I'm about two inches taller than my fi and I'm wearing flats.... but I'm also not a huge heals person and wearing flats means I didn't have to order extra length on my dress.

I agree with what others have said, talk to him and see what he's comfortable with.

  • You are SOOOO lucky!  Lol I abslolutely hate heels, but FI is 6'3" and I am 5'4".  I bought 3 or 4" wedges because I can at least hope to walk in them without falling donw.  ANYWAY, what pp have said, you should probably just do flats or maybe a small heel.  Maybe try on different shoes and stand next to each other to take photos.  You may see that you look weird if you're towering too much, and you don't want all of your wedding photos looking weird!

    Good luck!

  • What if you wore flats for your ceremony and maybe first dance, and then switched into the heels you're dreaming of for the rest of the reception? That way your FI will feel comfortable, and you can show off your cute shoes later on! Besides I doubt anyone will see your shoes during the ceremony anyway...

  • Thanks for all the help guys! With all that you have to worry about in the planning, its always nice to get a second opinion!
  • I think I would also switch if you can without making your dress to long or short.  Wear flats for the ceremony and pictures so that when he is standing next to you in front of everyone he feels more comfortable and also in the pictures so when you guys look back you aren't towering over him too much.  Then, for the reception change into heels so you can feel your best!

  • "small heels"...yuck!  I personally LOVE me some heels but I do NOT consider 1" to be a desirable at all- and you'll be hard pressed to find one you love - I guarantee it.

How about some lovely flats for ceremony and maybe the first dance and pics....then slip into your hot stilletos for the reception?  Best of both worlds!  And many brides today do both=)

I actually found some really prettyl pointy toe red kitten heels that I'm wearing for my wedding! They give you that extra posture boost without sacrificing comfort all night.

But anyway, I agree, flats or kitten heels would probably be best, but take your time in looking for the right shoe, you can find some absolutely BEAUTIFUL flats!
  • My FI is only an inch or two taller than I am, so I will probably go with low heels (2 in. or less).  He is naturally more slender than I am, so even though I am working on getting in shape for the wedding, I don't want to look like I am both wider and taller than him for the wedding! :)

  • I would suggest talking to your fiance and see which one he would prefer.  He may want you both to be closer in height on your wedding day or he may want you to pick.

This is exactly the same for me.  I also love wearing heels, but flats will also be way more comfortable throughout the day too.
  • I am wearing a 1 1/2 inch heel because I am not a huge heel person. I found the cutest ones though and everyone is totally in love with them. Check out Kate Spade Mattie in white. Beautiful!!
  • My FI is taller than me so I dont have the same problem... but I'm wearing flats! I don't wear heels very often and I don't want my feet to be killing me!!
  • IMy Fiance is the same height as me so I'm wearing flats for the ceremony and the formal pictures then I'll change into my heels for the reception and a few 'cute shoe shots'.

I would hem your dress to the flats length... then when you put on the heels they'll peek out a bit and everyone can see how fabulous they are!!!!
