Poll: How Do You Feel About Trashing Your Wedding Dress?

I read on my photographer's blog that she is interested in trying this new photography trend called "Trash the Dress" where you take pictures of yourself in your wedding gown like...in a muddy pond or something.  Well, there are different looks, that's just one of them.  I read that another example would be putting on a pair of cowboy boots or tennis shoes with your wedding gown.  Has anyone else ever heard of this trend and is anyone on this board considering it?  Here's a link with an example:http://www.trashthedress.com/Someone wrote a better definition on wikipedia :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trash_the_Dress

I love that idea, especially after all the planning is over and done with. If not that, I might donate, or take some of the materials from the dress and make a blanket.

I think it makes for some unique pics but I'm donating my dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer.

I am considering it, but not on a drastic scale.

Mahogonie I love the idea of using elements of the dress in a blanket.  For those of you that are considering "trashing your dress" how do you plan on doing it?

Yes that is very trendy now right up there with colored shoes and candy bars. I'm going to do it! I'm going to stomp some grapes at either my winery or another fav. Mmm wine

Cuuuuute idea OFF!  Btw, I visited your website Off and love your vintage theme wedding idea.  I love the idea of donating your wedding dress for Breast Cancer.

ooh, I like the grape-stomping idea!I think it's cool photo-wise, but I probably won't do it. I'm gonna donate it instead

While I looove the way the pictures look in trash the dress photo shoots I could not bring myself to trash my dress.  Knowing what I paid for it I just can't do it.  I would rather preserve it and hope that a daughter of mine would wear it or alter it and wear it in some way at least.

i would love to do it b/c the pictures seem so cool.  but i really don't know what i want to do with it yet.  a part of me wants to save it for a wedding if i have a daughter some day, another part of me wants to sell it, and another part wants to TRASH IT!   so for the mean time, it's staying in the closet in the bag :(

I would like to do it in the ocean or some body of water. I'd like to have the wedding near the beach, but if money keeps it near home, I'd like to go to the rings in Centennial park and jump in those or Lake Lanier. As long as it's water.lol

LCA, I love the one where she's in the tree.  I think I saw a photo like that on my photographer's blog.  I guess she convinced some brave bride to do it!

Not a chance.  My dress is designer with a number of different alterations, train lengthening, etc. and it is costing me a pretty penny... So I wouldn't enjoy "trashing" it.  I will preserve it and, since it's lace, offer it to any future daughter that I might have to use some of the lace in her bouquet or whatever.  Same with my veil.

Im really loving this ideal....i started looking on the internet and found another blog with the trash the dresshttp://www.bubblybride.com/blog/2009/02/

Although I think the pics are cool, don't think I will be able to trash it.  I paid too much for it so I may actually try to sell it/donate it.

I'm seriously considering it! Probably won't exactly "trash" the dress... But I thinking of putting it on with a pair of tennis shoes and playing on the playground or going bowling or maybe mini-golfing in it. [Ideas are still in the works ;)] I don't want to destroy it because I'd like to sell it.

Most people do not trash their wedding dress but a cheap alternative dress. I do not plan on doing this. I really do not see the point. A classy lady looking a mess...hummmm... not for me. I guess I am a classic bride. I want to keep my dress until the day I die.

My FI wants me to save it for our vow renewal, which is a good idea for me. I am also wearing my dress again when we go on our honeymoon and you have the formal dinner. This is an advantage of having a red dress. After that, I had planned on taking a few pics near this awesome modern waterfall in my city. Since it's just water, it will dry.

I cant do it! I think its crazy. All the money you spend and the stress of find THE dress...I couldnt think of doing such a thing.  And I love looking at my mother wedding dress, when my sisters and I were little we would put on my mothers dress and my dads tux and marry eachother.  I COULDNT!!
  • edited December 2011
It looks like fun....I'm debating if I should TTD in the ocean, since I'm getting married on the beach!
  • edited December 2011
I'm doing it and my groom is going to be with me. It's kinda like day after pics. I wanted to share this with him and just add some more pics of us to the collection. I really can't wait to do this.

I am still thinking about it.  I thought maybe even going to David's Bridal for and get one of the $99 dollar dresses and doing it with that.  If I can find one similar to mine.  I want to preserve my dress and give it to my daughter or even donate it.
