Tux opinions please

I have a couple of questions about tuxes, hope you ladies can help. 1. FMIL e-mailed me asking when FFIL should go in to rent his tux. The wedding is in April. She wants him to wait till January, after the "holiday feasting". I'm wondering if it's too late. Also, FI's parents live in Columbus so they want to rent the tuxes in Columbus. Is that OK, could that be a problem with making last minute changes if there are any fit issues? When do tuxes get picked up for a Saturday wedding? FI's parents will probably come to Cinci on Friday because the RD is on Friday. 2. She was also asking about where to go for tux rental. I was considering Peppe Ramundo because when I called different places this was the only one that sounds like they might have the kind of vest I'm looking for for FI. I think FMIL wants to go to Men's Wearhouse. It's not a problem if everyone has different tuxes, is it? Should I worry about some people having a vest and others a cummerbund, or should this just be their choice? There's only a best man and no other groomsmen so maybe no tux matching should be involved? 3. This brings me to the best man. He lives in Columbus, too. Should he rent his tux in Cinci or Columbus? Should his tux be the same as FI's? I don't think it's necessary or even desirable, but I dunno. 4. FI lives in Columbus too. : / I want him to rent the tux in Cinci so any last minute alterations can be made here. Good idea? Thanks, all. You've knocked some sense into me with my registry quandary, please work your magic again. : )

Honestly, I would order the tuxes all from the same place.  That way the styles match.  I would want everyone to be in a matching jacket and vest style.  Plus, if you get them all from 1 place you can designate someone to return them all together that way everyone doesn't have to make sure they get back up to c-bus in time to return them.  You should look into Folchi's and Peppe Ramundos.  They both do a really good job.  And both have the capability of doing last minute changes if anything doesn't fit.FYI- I have heard horror stories about MW.  Their warehouse is in Texas and I know of people who have not been able to exchange something if it doesn't fit.

Thanks for the warning about MW, tb. I will pass that on to FI's parents. Also, I should mention that we want to just do black vests for a classic black tie look, so is matching tuxes really important?

The tuxes all have slight differences.  I would expect that you would want them to match, or at least complement each other.  The in laws style wouldn't matter so much, but DH and the GMs would. We ordered ours through Skeffingtons because they have a local warehouse.  Basically, DH went in and picked them out.  We had one for him, one for the GMs, and one for the ushers.  They were responsible for going in and getting their measurements and leaving the deposit.  I want to say two days before the wedding, they went in and tried them on.  I don't recall any problems.  They then had a day or so to return them after the wedding.  If the guys will be in town before the wedding, I'd rent them here.  If not, and you trust someone to get them back to the shop in Columbus, go there.   BTW, our measurements weren't all in until maybe the week before the wedding.  I remember dropping off the guy from Arizona measurements and deposit on the way to my bachelorette party.  Remember, a lot of places do the 'rent X number and get the grooms free', so getting them from the same place might be a bonus.  HTH!

Here's another vote for Peppe Ramundo's!! We had a great experience with them. Like pp said, there are many tux styles, so I would definitely order them all from the same shop. 9 of our 11 tux wearers were OOT and we had absolutely ZERO issues. GL! www.pepperamundoandson.com

Just another vote for Peppe Ramundo's. We went in, chose the tuxes (with advice from Carmen), got FI measured, and were out in under 20 minutes. Picked up Thursday or Friday for a Saturday wedding, had until Monday to return. Couldn't have had a better experience. Everyone's tuxes fit great (including those who called in their measurements rather than going over to get measured).Peppe and Carmen (Peppe's son) are awesome!

I would recommend to rent all tuxes at same place. Hubby and I live in columbus as did most GM and our wedding was in CINCY. When the GM came into town on friday for saturday wedding they just picked them up and if they needed alterations the tux place (Folchi's formalwear in West Chester) made changes or had them come back saturday morning (which didn't happen). The reason I recommend the same place is because hubby got a free tux after 5 rentals so it just worked out best. I'd find out why fi's family wants tuxes from cbus, I'd try to steer them to cincy just to keep things together. GL!

Thanks, ladies. We will only have 4 guys (or 5 if FI's brother changes his mind and decides to participate) needing tuxes so we won't qualify for a free tux. FI and his parents seem to be so set on getting FFIl's tux in Columbus that I'm just gonna throw in the towel. I can't deal with this. If the best man just goes somewhere in Columbus to get measured how does that work? Does he walk into a suit store or alterations place and tip them $5 to do it?

If he goes to a tux store he should be able to get his measurements taken for free and then he can send them to the tux store you are using.

To clarify my last post, have him go to a store that rents tuxes and they should do it free of charge.

Will a tux store object to being used for measurements only? That's like helping out a competitor, isn't it?

I think most tux stores look at it as a courtesy.  Plus, they probably feel that if you are going to themget measured for an OOT wedding then if you need a tux sometime in town you will get it from them.  Just a thought...
