Opinion on florist pricing

So, so far, I haven't finalized anything yet with anyone.  I just sent some emails out regarding pricing-- I'm basically looking for blue hydrangeas with lots of funky greenery and some white flowers mixed in-- more wildflower, free and messy yet still modern looking.  No exotic flowers at all.I was priced $200 for my bouquet alone.  Does that seem outrageous or right on?  The bridesmaids are $75 each.  (This is the first quote so far) And I was told that unless I spent over $1000, I'd have to come pick up the flowers myself.  And then was quoted around $55 each for table centerpieces-- again, I asked for a simple, modern design, maybe a few hydrangeas in a vase with some cut up limes or something.  Maybe some wavy sticks with some greenery.  Basically, SIMPLE.  I had no idea regarding pricing till a girl at work said her mom used to be a florist and I'm basically being screwed over.  Any thoughts????  Around what are you being charged?

If you are in the SW bursbs,  I would recommend that you contact David at The Enchanted Florist in Orland Park.  He is very reasonable in pricing, a nice guy, and came highly recommended by a friend of mine who is in the wedding biz.Hope this helps!

Also look into Miller's Florist - http://www.artmillersflorist.com/ - My bouquet was 100 and my large center pieces (large calla lilies and orchids) were a little over that price range. My smaller ones were way under.

My bouquet (tulips and cymbidium orchids) is $115. I got a quote for the same thing at another florist for $150. Yet another didn't give me a precise quote but said that their bridal bouquets range from $180-200. So basically price can vary quite a bit depending on where you go. You shouldn't have to spend $200 on the bouquet you're asking for, and you should be able to get everything delivered no matter what you spend. I found better prices (and, coincidentally, nicer people) at the little neighborhood flower shops that don't have particularly helpful or attractive websites. On the other hand, the centerpieces actually don't seem priced exorbitantly according to the info I've gathered. For some reason people seem to charge ridiculous amounts just to lend you the vase it comes in. Hope this helps!

I would ask if they're doing anything special to the bouquet since you want hydrangeas. Hydrangeas generally don't do well out of water for an extended period of time so they might be adding in water vials or doing something special to make sure they don't wilt after half an hour. Perhaps if you looked into another sturdier flower, it wouldn't be so much. I have also found that if you bring in a pic for them to copy EXACTLY, that can make the price higher. Maybe you can show them the pic and ask if they have something similar there. I would definitely get prices from more than 1 person, though. Post the area you're in and maybe some knotties will be able to give you good recommendations.

Try Grace at Vale of Enna   http://www.vale-of-enna.com/Her studio is in her home so her costs are way lower since she doesn't have to pay for store front rent.  My bouquet has hydrangea and roses.  It is about $90.  Just got our mock centerpieces from her the other day- pic in bio under DIY.  She is super sweet too! good luck

Thanks girls!  I'm in the SW burbs, and the wedding will be in Wheaton.I kinda thought I was being charged too much.  At first I had no clue, but I definitely think I'll keep looking.  I sent about 6 pictures, and said this was an "idea" of what I'm looking for.  But I want a ton of greenery, which shouldn't be pricey at all. Thanks for the input!

I am sorry that is BS. you need to find another florist. I can only image what your center piece pricing was. I would recommend using Joyce Grattoni, She does fabulous work and she is very price conscience. She can help you find what you are looking for and she is great to work with. Her e-mail is jgrattoni at comcast dot net

Your bouquet sounds a bit pricey, but $55 is good for a centerpiece. I LOVED my florist, but she is on the far north side of Chicago, so that might be a little inconvenient for you. Shop around...
