  • I want to see a pic of the dress before I vote!

  • I attended a reception for a couple who did a destination wedding away - and the reception was indeed 6 months later.  They then were able to show the finished wedding video during the reception, and have the pictures to display!  My friends and I were disappointed, though, when she did NOT wear her original wedding dress, instead a second white-colored dress she must have bought off the rack.

I say go for it!  Many others are too!

(PS: The only other thing my friends and I were disappointed in was that there were no favors!  Everything else was in traditional wedding reception style...)

I am having a destination wedding and I have gone back and forth about If I should do the same( My reception will be four months after.) I may end up wearing my wedding dress because I think my friends and family would like to see me up close and personal in my dress instead of still pictures.
  • I vote wear the dress. My cousin and his wife had a small-er ceremony and reception in her hometown and a second reception in his a week(or two?) later. They had their dance and the cake cutting and all that jazz, although it wasnt made out to be as big of a deal. It was more of a party atmosphere than a formal reception. She wore her dress for the first hour or two, through all the formalities and changed into a cute dress(in her wedding colors!) for the rest of the night. Everyone who didnt get to go to the first reception got to see her in her dress, she got a second use out of it, and she got to have fun without lugging her(BIG) dress around all night.

  • why not do something a bit different to your dress, such as having it shortened or dyed. Just a thought. I am having a destiation wedding and a huge reception at home in Chicago just 2 weeks later. And I bought another gorgeous gown for the reception.

  • Once a bride, always a bride!

I don't get the whole "You're a Wife now" thing. Are you going to walk around dressed like this

once you're a *wife*? Is there a certain dress code memo or something that I missed?

  • I think if it were one of my friends, I'd be really excited for a chance to see her in her dress, especially if I didn't have a chance to see it in the first place!  Have fun with it!  That's what it is all about.
  • I agree with Tessy87. Wear a white cockail dress and maybe have a big screen set up and play a DVD of your wedding pictures or video.
  • Ghoti I just laughed so loud at your post! Excellent point!

I say go for it! You picked your wedding dress because you obviously loved it and feel gorgeous in it, I'd take any opportunity to wear it again and I'm sure everyone would love to see you in it.
  • I like the idea of having the dress shortened into a cocktail dress!!!!  If you can do that, it would be a great way to integrate the dress into your reception without losing the "wedding dress on wedding day" idea that is ingrained in so many people!
