I voted for stripes, I didn't like either of the accent walls.

I don't like the squares.  I would go with stripes.

i vote ditch the fancy paint jobs and focus on the letters, like this

I vot for HM that would look great with your bedding, and I'd just leave the walls the color you want. If I did an accent wall I'd just do solid lighter color.

I like that, hmo. But the letters have already been bought, and I think we're going to have to put a piece of furniture on that wall (probably a bookcase).  Might be interesting, though, to do the bookcase on one side and letters on the other.  Could put numbers over the dresser/changing table, then figure something else out for over the crib...And I really think they'll keep each other awake if I put them in the same room together.  Plus there's no room for a 2nd crib and dresser in Dex's room.  I mean, we could take out the bookcase and try to squeeze both of them into one dresser if we HAD to, but that seems like more hassle than it's worth.

If you don't have to put them in the same room, DON'T. My oldest 2 are only 15 mths apart, and while building a new house we briefly lived with my dad and had them both in the same room. Anytime one woke up they would disturb the other, it was terrible. If you didn't have the room they'd have to get used to each other, but since you do have a spare room, use it!!!

okay, just re-read.  i say paint the one wall white, and paint the letters in the paint you already have.  you might want to pick up a can of red spray paint or something else brighter because all these earth tones are not doing it for me.  then paint maybe five letters in red to add pop.

right now, they're plain particle board.  I am planning to paint them, but I am waiting to decide on wall paint to decide what color(s), so I don't have a dark green letter on a dark green wall.I was going to use the same paint colors I was planning to incorporate into the wall (light green, light blue, light yellow, white, peanut butter brown, maybe chocolate brown).Ditto for the number canvases. I was going to paint the canvas one or more of those colors, then stencil on the number in one or more of those colors (with sufficient contrast). Then I have things to glue on to the canvases, so the "5" canvas will have, say, 5 circles on it.

My friend has a two in separate rooms and they just end up playing musical beds.  I think if she had it to do over again she would have put them in the same room.

paint the numbers like the letters, and hang those over the changing table.something like this would be cute over the crib:http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29742106

i also think it might be interesting if you decoupaged a few numbers/letters with paper that is complementary to the paint.

If they want to be in the same room when they're older - say preschool or grade school or high school - I'm all for that. One can be a bedroom and the other can be a combo guest room/schoolwork/playroom.  That would be awesome.  But not as babies/toddlers.And I am thinking hard about HMO's white wall.  Or maybe use the pale yellow (not unlike this yellow background on the Knot's post page) and then paint the letters real colors and arrange in a grid to one side of the bookcase.  Interesting.Poor kid. I only have 2 months left to figure this out and get it done!  Also, I have a Home Depot coupon that expires today, so if I need to go buy paint supplies, I need to do it now. :)

i don't think you should hang them in a grid.  i think freeform -- like the bedding -- is fine, and will be less stress.  also, please note there are pops of red in the bedding.

btw, i also think it would be fun to paint one of the pieces of furniture the same red -- the bookcase, the dresser. ideally, i would paint the bookcase red, but paint the back of the shelves a different color. or i would paint the dresser red, but decoupage the drawer fronts in a complementary paper and paint the knobs red.

I'm all about including some red.  And the colors aren't as earth-tone as you might think from those images.  The dark green background color is pretty olive-y, but IDK that I"d call any of the others "fall" colors. My only worry, actually, is that they're all sortof pale (pale green/yellow/blue) and might be too "baby" and not work as well when he's a toddler.  I'd consider other colors, but we have about 30 cans of paint in the basement that are just going to waste, and I'd like to use them up.

dresser and crib are espresso - same as Dex's (I'm just getting duplicates). My goal is to never have to buy them another dresser ever. :)  The letters are the same ones we used in there, too.Dexter's Nursery The bookcase is medium oak stain. (Again, same as Dex's - my dad made me those in college. No backs for your cool painting idea.)  If I refinished, it would probably be to an espresso.

Oh, RUG!  I have been looking high and low.  I'm not really willing to spend big $$ on a rug that will probably get puked on quite a bit. Dex's rug was a $99 deal from Target.I figure this room will end up with a lot of green in it either way, so I was hoping for something like this:Crete Area Rug But I'd really rather stick closer to $100 for a 5x8.

okay, because the letters are all the same size, i think they would look better painted different colors and clustered extremely tightly rather than scattered all over the wall.

OK, I love both of those! I'll have to experiment with different layouts and see if something will work.
