F/U: Name Change

I wanted to post a follow-up to name changing. I learned some things, so I hope this can help someone in the future. It is a fairly easy process if you know where to go (I didn't) and what to bring (I did). -Social Security: They need a state-issued ID (license works) or Passport and your Marriage License (with a seal). I used a single seal marriage license and my PA ID. I had already changed my license to my new name. Word of advice: change this before you change your license unless you have another official ID with your maiden name (thank goodness the DMV told me to keep my PA ID with my maiden name in case I needed to prove my old identity). There is a SS office no one seems to know about in Allegheny Center in the North Shore. There was only one other person there and the whole thing took 5 minutes. They are open 9 am - 4 pm. I went during a lunch break and was back within half an hour (including walking to and from). -DMV: You need your ML with a seal, old DL and the name change form from their website. I have heard that some people did it without the seal on the ML, but I have also heard of women being sent away because they did not have a seal on theirs. A AAA/DMV affiliate cannot do a name change on-site. They have to send it out, so you will not get your new DL that same day. Word of advice: Skip the AAA and go straight to a PennDot Center. Be prepared to wait!I went on a Saturday at 1pm and waited for 1.5 hours. It helps to be prepared to wait a long time. No matter what the number ticket says that you get, the time on the ticket will not match your wait time. Annoying point: It also helps to be in a good mood when you get to the agent. My agent was extremely nice and helpful to me just because I had a smile on my face. Most people are in a p!ssy mood there and it is irritating. OK, Hope this helps someone!Next up in this chapter: Passport Name Change & Banks

The fun never ends with name changing, huh? Those are great tips though...GL with the rest, it wasn't too bad (except paying the $75 to change the passport- ouch).

I'll be following in your footsteps as soon as I get the paperwork back from my hometown county courthouse, hopefully later this week! Hooray for being official and surviving the name change!

Gah! There was a 1.5 hour wait at the East Liberty place? I feel bad since I recommended that place. :(

No M, the East Liberty place won't do the name change in-house. They have to mail it out. I found this out after I got there. They can only do renewals and such in-house.I ended up going to Penn Hills.
