NWR: Chiropractor

So Friday night at work I totally tweaked my back and was miserable all weekend. I couldn't sleep, was getting up at 3 or 4 am every day, couldn't sit/bend over/twist/do anything. All I could do was stand. Needless to say by yesterday morning I was in tears because it hurt and I was so tired. I have always been very wary of chiropractors, and had never been to one. But yesterday I decided I couldn't take it anymore and decided to go. Holy moly, what a difference. I was so impressed. He was incredibly thorough in trying to figure out what was wrong (turns out the muscle in between two of my ribs was spasming), the adjustment didn't hurt at all (which I thought it would) and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I went once yesterday afternoon and again this morning before work...and I am virtually pain free!! Woo hoo! And Thursday I get to go in for an insurance-paid massage...yesssss!I am now a believer, and I feel bad for all those years that I thought chiropractors were quacks (some are still a little loony...but not all).

Re: NWR: Chiropractor

  • I've never been a fan of chiropractors, I've always preferred physical therapists. But, I'm glad he was able to get you out of pain and woohoo for the massage!!
  • That's awesome! I swear the only thing worse than back pain is a bad tooth ache :)Chiropractors really freak me out to be honest, but FI swears by them. He hurt his back really bad while he was at work a few years ago, and the only thing that has helped him is the chiro. I won't tell you why they scare me, yours seems to be helping you and I wouldn't want to taint that for you :) FI does agree that you have to find someone reputable, there are a lot of quacks out there. You can find horror stories about any kind of doctor though.
  • Ditto PP.  I had scoliosis as a teen and had to go to physical therapy because I rode horses and it really messed up my back.  The chiropractor just made it worse for me.  Glad it's working for you!
  • Ahhhhh!  Pain free is awesome!  I went to a chiropracter for 6 months and loved every minute of it!  The "shock therapy" I think was the best - they hook you up to these electrodes that pump some sort of electricity through your muscles to make them relax.

  • I'm glad you are feeling better!

  • My FI is a chiropractor, and I have learned SO much since we started dating...I always thought the only reason I would need to see one is if I messed up my back somehow. Not only is it great for that, but FI's practice really specializes in wellness and preventative care. They hold free classes on working out, managing stress, and eating well. Having proper alignment really has made all of my body systems function better. I am a nurse, and it really makes me think about what we do to our bodies day after day, and then need to be 'fixed' once something goes haywire. If we all practice a little 'maintenance,' we (the US as a whole) would be healthier. That's FI's philosophy in a nutshell. Yay chiro!
