Brides that let the BM's pick their own dresses....

I need a little guidance from you!How did you work this out exactly?1. Did you pick the type of material?2. Did you say that everyone had to have a different one or was it OK if they "overlapped" and 2 chose the same one?I'm having trouble deciding these 2 things...I can't decide between satin or chiffon or if it's OK to do both. And I can't decide if I want everyone to have a different one or not!

Hmmm...I was able to find a dress that worked for everyone, but had I not been able to, I would have let the girls choose their own.  That being said, I would have specified the type of material (all satin...all chiffon...etc).  I've seen weddings where the BMs wore different dresses and different materials and it looked great, but it's not what I have in mind for my wedding. Everyone's different though...

let me know how you like Lakeland Manor. I was planning on having my reception there and change it at the last second! I hear they have AWESOME food!

I have 3 different dresses, be careful when mixing fabrics. All three dresses have stain and chiffon. I asked all my girls to search through dresses and send me the syle they liked via email. I then found dresses that matched the style they each chose. We made an appointment at DB's to make sure the styles looked ok on each girl and we went from there.Note: I never intended on purchasing dresses from David's. But they have a huge selection and all my girls range from size 2 - 24. We are purchasing our dresses from a different bridal boutique.

sinned - so far I really love Lakeland, they've been totally amazing with everything for me.  Where did you change to? And which Lakeland were you thinking of (9 Mile or Harper?)

The Lakeland Manor we were going to go with was on...Harper at 9 mile I believe. Not sure off the top of my head though. We ended up going with Kings Court Castle out at Olde World Canterbury Village (I have a princess complex ;))

I originally just wanted all of my girls to go find a black long dress and call it a day...but then people starting complaining that the pictures would look odd if the material wasn't the same in each dress.  I also realized that my girls wanted some sort of guidance.  So I found a line that I liked (I went with Jasmine) and told them to pick any dress they wanted as long as it was 1. black 2. long and 3. charmeuse   I asked them to all pick a different dress.  I just like the look of it.

I plan on just choosing the material and color (from DB because my sister lives in KY) and letting them pick the dress. I really don't want to deal with the whole BM dress issue at all so this makes it easy for me!

Im just picking satin, chocolate brown knee length and letting them figure the rest out. I have BM's ranging from literally size 2 to a size 18 so what looks good on one may not look good on another and there busts are literally 1 end to the other of the spectrum in size. I want them comfortable and able to shop prices. I wish I could just pick a dress and force them to get it but I want them to look as great as I'd want to myself.

I never really considered having my BMs wear the same dress because 1) they all have different shapes and styles and 2) I just prefer the look of different BM dresses. That being said, I'm planning to pick the color (champagne), material (TBD) and length (knee).  I wouldn't mind at all if a couple of girls picked the same style and I probably wouldn't care if they had different fabrics but I agree that BMs probably want some sort of guidance.  A front runner right now is ariadress.com but I want to see them in person before we place any orders.  HTH!

I just picked the length and the color. I tried to make sure the fabrics were similar but they may not be the exact same.I didn't say that everyone had to have a different dress - I just wanted them to wear a dress that they thought they would look good wearing.

I dunno, to me, I don't think it matters.  I think if you give them an idea of the formality you are looking for, color scheme, maybe some pictures of stuff you like, I think that would be good.  Letting girls wear what and me some what mismatched seems to be the popular thing to do on SMP, martha stewart, and instyle weddings.  If you don't like that look though, I wouldn't do it.  I think as long as one girl isn't in like a sun dress and another in a ballroom, it is pretty.

I dont like when all the girls look the same so I let my girls pick out any black satin dress they wanted. My dress is silk so that is why I picked satin. I think it is ok do to do both my moh is in a different fabric not sure of the name of it

I told them that the dress had to be Watters and taffeta and let them pick the style that best fit their body type.   The three smaller girls all wound up picking the same dress.  The two bustier girls chose the same dress. If you're concerned about the different materials looking different, ask for sample swatches to compare.  Satin and chiffon might look similar.  Ultimately, though, it's what you're happy with.

Basically I just had my girls pick a bunch of dresses that they liked and all 4 of them (since one wasn’t in town at the time) tried each dress on.  Once we all mutually decided on the one that we all thought looked best on everyone that’s what we went with.  Too bad it took me forever to settle on one for myself!  LOL

I just picked the colors and then did what festivegal did. But... I really liked the way the girls all looked in the same dress! It's really all about your preferences.

i let them pick out whatever dress they wanted as long as it came in the color I picked. So they each picked about 2 dresses that they really liked and will make the final decision when it gets closer to ordering. I think the pictures will look good since everyone will be in a dress they are comfortable wearing. they actually have different materials and it still looks good. It's a dark color so that might help with that.
