I was just going to reply again.

Re: Really, a DD?

  • I don't think anybody was particularly rude. Hm.
  • Saw THAT coming from a mile away

  • I agree Panda. Was it that people didn't consider her wedding a DW that sent her over the edge? What an... insult?

  • is this the girl with the 200 person DW that she was contemplating charging admission for?
  • I don't understand why she would find it that surprising that the rest of us agreed that the notion of charging some guests for attending her wedding was hideously tacky. How can that come as a shock?
  • Wino - Yup. I was just going to remark on her comment: "So the expense of travel and hotel is very minimal, since they would probably be driving to their vacation homes anyway." Sounded like a rationale for charging them for their reception meal, since they wouldn't be spending THAT much money to come to her wedding.

  • beatles - I missed the part about her wedding not being a destination. What was that about?
  • Screw that. If ya gotta book a plane ticket AND a hotel, THEN its a destination wedding. Please. Myrtle Beach is awesome, but please.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Her wedding was 2-3 hours away in a town where a majority of guests had beach houses.
  • dammit, i missed that thread! i was too busy reading P2 and E go at it again in that other thread.
  • wow. so if you're already going to be in the area, it's ok for you to pay for your own dinner? Let me guess: the line of reasoning is that if they can afford a vacation home, they an afford their own reception meal!
  • She sucked. I was kinda surprised because I thought most of the responses were rather kind.
  • Libertarian-you need to learn balance! Klassy threads come and go, but  E & P2 will forever be duking it out.

  • Why go through the formality of asking them to pay for their meals? They're loaded, so why don't they just host her wedding at their beach homes? What a money-saver.

  • No, no. She wants it to be fair to everybody. So the people who don't have to pay for a hotel because they have vacation homes to stay at can pay for their dinner instead. Duh.
  • hahah I know! I was trying to get everything in at once, but then i just got caught up in the silliness of it all.
  • No Panda, you got it wrong still. The people who RSVP first get to have a free meal, provided they have a beach home. The ones who RSVP after the 150-mark better get their wallets out.

  • Really, she DD'd?  Unless she was slaughtered after my last post, that was pretty benign.  FFS.
  • Mocha, it would have had to have gotten really ugly really fast if that was the reason, because the last time I checked it, it seemed pretty tame, and literally 2 minutes later it was gone.

  • It was tame. Nobody even called her a moron. I really think she was offended that we didn't consider a 2-3 hour drive to be a DW, if that's even possible.

  • beatles- I was thinking that too.
  • This is true, she was very insistent that it was (and had to be) a DW. Once it came out it was only a 2 hour drive for most people, she must have been crushed to find out how "un-special" her "Not REALLY DW" was.

  • Well meg, then there's not much we could have done to help her, if that's what she's focused on. No wonder she considered charging people for their food or tried to negotiate their money in her head. Yikes.

  • I would also love to know how she would discretely ask people to cover their cost. I'm picturing something like: "Hey, remember when I loaned you $45? Can I have it back?" or "I'm stuck here in Myrtle Beach and need $45 for a bus ticket back home. Can you help me out?" That last one always works for the homeless people downtown.
  • I could just see how it would have went down: "But it IS a DW, its not like we're having within the 'delivery zone' of the local Dominos. People are going to have to DRIVE more than 5 minutes to get there, tell me how that's NOT a DW?"

  • The quote on her profile was something about being a bridezilla and that she always gets her way. It was beautiful.
  • LOL meg! Cew, or she could pretend to be one of those "Nigerian students" who needs a loan to get home, and email all her family and friends.

  • Yes! or that her rich uncle just died and she needs each guest to send her a check so that she can get the inheritance. True story - FI decided to fuuck with one of those scammers one day. He said he's send the $ if the scammer would send him a picture of himself holding a sign that said "dirty sanchez". The scammer did it. FI thought it was the funniest thing ever. I made him stop talking to the guy b/c it scared me.
  • HA HA! That is too funny. My FI actually fuucked with one of those people too once, and kept emailing him to the point where they set up a "meet" to exchange the money. Then he never showed up and blocked the guy's email. Nothing too malicious... he just wanted to waste this guy's time like he had wasted FI's.
