Geneva isn't terribly far from Downer's Grove.  Have her check out Crystal Bride in Geneva. I have referred so many friends there.

I almost bought my dress at Irena Bridal in Villa Park. It's on Roosevelt Road and not far from Downers Grove at all. My bridesmaids got their dresses there, which are beautiful, and they have a great dress selection with great prices. There's a place right across the street (I don't remember the name) and there's a Davids and HOB not far from there too.

I just purchased mine at Eva's in Oak Lawn. I worked with Kina and she was amazing!

I bought my dress at the Bridal Mansion in Lisle.  I worked with Margie there and she was really great.

I bought my dress from Weddings 826 in Lincoln Park. It's kind of far from DG but, depending on how long her engagement is, it might be helpful because you can try on dresses there and walk out with it the same day.

I went to Catherine Simms in Naperville off of Rt. 59.  they have a website.  The women there were so nice and very helpful!  They also have BM dresses and jewelry!

Weddings 826 in the Lincoln Park neighborhood ofer designers gowns off the rack and their prices run between $800-$2000.  I almost bought my gown at 826 but then I went to Kasia's Bridal Salon on the westside of Chicago and ended up buying it there.

I went to Irena Bridal when I was looking for my gown, and personally I thought that they all looked the same.  The lady that worked there pretty much threw us in a room and left us to fend for herself.  Granted, she was the only one there, but we were the only customers there too.  I didn't feel comfortable giving her whatever the commission would have been on a dress had I found it there.  I also looked at House of Brides (don't recommend them either), Bella Bianca (nice salon, good customer service, a bit pricey), Priscilla of Boston (I used to work there, shady alterations people, just a warning if your friend buys from there).  I've heard a lot of good things about Crystal Bride though.  I ended up getting mine through a designer friend of mine in San Francisco.  I'd obviously recommend her, but it's a little far away from Downers Grove.  Good luck to your friend though!

I bought my dress at The Bride's Room in Wheeling, they were selling their samples in September because they were moving...I don't know how long it is going to go on, but the samples were all going for $500...I also love Gigi's Closet in Glenview...great service!!!

I live in Downers Grove and went to A Joyful Occasion in Naperville, it was about a 15 min. drive.  They carry La Sposa and Paloma Blanca, plus other great designers (which you can see on her site)...  That's where I bought mine too!  :)I was also going to check out The Dress by Nicole in Wheaton, it's newer, and heard it's a good place to check out...That was my next stop, but I fell in love too quickly...Good luck!

A Joyful Occasion in Naperville. Im in Milwaukee and did the two hour road trip with two bridesmaids and found the dress. I had been working with Freyda strictly by phone for two months trying to track down an Alfred Sung. I never did get hold of that dress. However, Freyda suggested trying the other Alfred Sung samples she did have , and offered to order the dress I thought I wanted. She got to know me, and seemed to understand what I wanted more than I knew myself. She brought out a beautiful Reem Acra gown... you know the rest of the story. Worth MY drive. If you live in DuPage County, it is at least worth a visit.

I actually have a really fun story about buying my dress. I was visitng one of my friends in New York, and we went to Kleinfelds (from "Say Yes to the Dress"). It was my first time trying on dresses and the last one I put on there was "the one"!
