STD Question

Ok, so my fiance and I can't figure out what to do about formal mailings. We got engaged in June and are getting married in the Dominican in March 2010. We have already booked our DW travel and the travel agent sent out save the dates to our guest list. However, they were emailed out and not too formal. Plus not everyone got the email, b/c it went to their junk mail. We already have our closest guests booked, but would like to send something out to announce our upcoming nuptials. So we have had engagement pics made and now don't know what to do. So what do we send something formal out to announce our marriage and let people know that they are welcome without them feeling that they have to come. Confused Bride???

I'm not sure what you mean - are you inviting these folks? An invitation does just what you mention above - lets people know they can join you, but aren't obligated to go. No one is obligated to go to a wedding (*especially* a DW!). You have a few options: 1) STD (check out zazzle, vistaprint or 123print.com to see about uploading your pics to a design) - you can do these in the form of a magnet or a postcard either of which can use your e-pic - these generally go out 6-12 months beforehand and are very informal. Only send them to ppl you are inviting, though, because once you send a STD you're obligated to invite them. 2) invitation - this probably would not use your pics, though - should go out 2-3 months before the wedding 3) wedding announcement - this can be sent just as soon as you're married and can have your pic in/on it, but obviously doesn't invite ppl to join you.

Thanks Carrie. I think I'm confused since the DW planner has already sent out std emails to relay all of the DW information. I guess my question is, Is it redundant to send out formal save the dates since guests have already recieved the email version?

I would go ahead and send out the invitations. We sent ours at about 5 months... it isn't uncommon for DW invites to go out earlier. And I wouldn't be worried about being redundant. :-)

Yeah, don't stress about the redundency! Especially since it sounds like for a lot of the guests, it won't be redundent. Have you already picked out your invites? (sorry, haven't looked to see if you have a bio yet) If not, you can work an Epic into the invite.hth*m*

thanks ladies! you helped out a lot. i will send out the invites and save the pic card for the announcement. we will have the announcement sent out when we are at the DW.
