ring cleaning

I've been engaged 2 months and already I want to clean my ring. What is the best product to use. I def. dont want to damage the stone. I keep looking in the prongs and it looks a little dirty. Am I crazy?

Either take it to a jeweler or you can buy these little containers that have solution in them and you just drop it in for a minute. Everytime I go to our jeweler, he cleans my ring and earrings, etc for me. They never look as sparkly as right after he cleans them. But I do use that solution stuff in between visits.

my FI worked at a jewelry store for years.  Whenever I make him (hehe) clean my rings, he uses an old tooth brush and Windex and it always sparkles like new.But you can probably pick up a a cleaner at like a CVS or somewhere if you want to.Just don't clean it over the sink!!  you don't want a drain accident!

just get ring cleaner from your jeweler or use warm water and soap or even windex. when i first got engaged, i cleaned my ring weekly.

Never thought of windex. I guess the toothbrush will help with in between the prongs. I feel weird going to the jewler just so he can clean my ring. I never even met the guy.

My jeweler told me to just let my ring soak in ammonia (he did say "because your ring is platinum" so I'm not sure if ammonia and gold is OK) for a while to loosen the dirt. He said to then clean it will an old toothbrush and some soapy water, rinse and wear.

I used a toothbrush dipped in a cup of warm water and a bit of dishwashing detergent. When I went to get my ring appraised, and when we went to a mall jeweler to look for FI's ring, they used a machine to clean it for me for free. If you got your ring from a local jeweler, they'll probably clean it for you (mine was from a website so we don't have a specific jeweler to go to).

When I had my ring appraised the jewelry appraiser told me specifically not to use the ring cleaning solutions that you get at the jewlery store. FI saw me use it once before we went to the appraiser and he freaked out. My mom always used it though. The appraiser said long term you might see effects of the chemicals on the ring and advised against using such products. Surprisingly she told me all you need is dawn dish detergent (or any brand) put a small drop in a bowl and put your ring in there to clean it and she said you can use a soft bristle toothbrush on it. And of course getting it cleaned a jewelry store is always a great option

My jewler said to use only hot water and a soft brush.  No chemicals!

You are definitly NOT crazy!! You want your bling to SPARKLE!! lolI go directly to the jewler that my fiance bought my ring from and he cleans it for me.  I wouldn't mess with different cleaners- go straight to the place he got it- plus he can look at it every 6months or so to make sure everything is sturdy and in place
