Hello Destination Knotties!

A fellow July 2011 knottie told our board we should check this board out! I'm very interested in planning a DW in Aruba, but I still don't know.. Do I want a traditional hometown wedding? I just have a couple of questions.. If you do DW how do you get all of your lovely wedding gifts since only close family and friends will probably be attending the wedding? And would I still be able to have a catholic ceremony if I'm overseas? Thanks, girls! I'm so excited to know about this board!

    im doing a dw in key west next summer... still new to everything but as for gifts, i imagine that the big stuff would be given at the shower and the wedding would be for cards. im pretty sure you could have any kind of wedding you want overseas - just need to find the right person and/or place to hold it for you. welcome.. i think you'll like this board if you decide to do a destination. sooo many great ideas and input. whatever you do.. have fun with it!

    Personally, the gifts didn't cross my mind when deciding on a DW. We were more interested in having a small wedding with close family and friends somewhere amazing instead of a large wedding at home with lots of presents. You can have any type of ceremony you want overseas... I have heard about girls getting their marriages blessed at a home church after the ceremony overseas so the marriage is recognized in that specific church... but I don't know for sure. I'm Baptist, not Catholic. Hope this helps!

    I agree with pp, the thought of gifts when deciding to have a DW never crossed my mind.  Actually, we are requesting our guests NOT give gifts (esp guests attending the wedding).  The way we see it, our guests are already paying a lot of money to join us for it, so, in our eyes, that is our gift.As far as having a catholic ceremony, I don't know about Aruba, but in Mexico and Dominican Republic we could have had a catholic ceremony (but that normally entails more costs for the officiant, etc).  Like Ladybird said, a lot of couples will have their marriage "blessed" at home too in their own church...GL with planning!

    I'm getting married this November in Dominican Republic. Our priest recommended we get married in small ceremony in town then we are doing a symbolic ceremony in Dominican 9 days later.  Its kind of crazy because we are getting married twice but it was really important that we went through the catholic formation but we didn't want a big wedding.  My family is still giving me a bridal shower.  We are having a reception after we get home also.  ~Aimee

I suppose you're right about the family having to afford the traveling that is basically the gift. thank you for the friendly welcome!!     I really haven't gave any thoughts on gifts to be honest. I suppose however that we're not really expecting any gifts on our Destination Wedding.

    Welcome!  We will get some at the wedding celebration in NJ-but for the DW, we are saying no gifts!
