Major sadness on the Nest

I'm not linking because there are tons of related posts, but on the Inland Empire board on the Nest one of the regular posters just passed away while having a C-Section from an amniotic embolism. Incredibly sad- lots of other boards are sending their thoughts & prayers.

Oh good. I can't imagine her husband going through losing his wife in labor and losing his new baby at the same time. That would destroy me.

I'm glad to hear the baby is doing well. I'm sure this woman's husband is completely lost, but he didn't have to lose both.

I went to a baby shower once for a dad who had lost his wife during the labor. It was so heart-wrenchingly sad. Poor husband

That is awful and seriously one of my worst fears for both myself and my friends having children. That poor family.Also, what is an amniotic embolism? I've never heard of it. Is it a blood clot of some sort?

I just teared up a bit. Not because I know her. Or not because this is the first time this has every happened to a family. Or the last time it will ever happen. But because it made me realize that this is the reality of life--and I can't even imagine if it were to happen to me, or someone I know. My heart goes out to her family.

amniotic fluid embolism is a rare occurrence. amniotic fluid somehow enters the patient's blood stream and it is thought that the presence of the fetal cells mother's blood stream causes a anapylactoid reaction which then triggers massive cardio-pulmonary collapse. SO sad tho...sigh

Oh wow. I've heard of that, and that it's rare, but that it's almost always fatal. Is that true? It has to be such a shock for the family. I think I'm going to go cry for a minute now.
