destination wedding and bridesmaid dresses

Hi everyone, I had a question. First of all, is it customary for the bridesmaids to pay for their own dresses? We are from Texas but are planning a wedding in San Diego in the summer. What do you guys think about having them travel to san Diego for the wedding and also paying for their dresses?? A little much?? We're on a budget but I feel horrible! Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

    Honestly when you plan a DW you accept that you are costing everyone who attends between hundreds to thousands of dollars. Yes the WP traditionally pay for their own attire. If you pay for attire that would be lovely if you could pay for hotel rooms that would also be lovely. But neither is required. However be understanding if the fiscal burden requires people to decline the WP or not attend.

    Traditionally, BMs pay for their dresses. Before shopping, you should ask each one individually what they are comfortable spending on a dress. If I were having a DW that required everyone to travel, I would be covering at least the hotel for my BMs. I just couldn't bring myself to ask the women in my life to buy a dress, a plane ticket, a hotel room, and then pay for all the other things a weekend away would cost. Of course, you don't have to, but if you don't, you run the risk that they are going to have to decline b/c it isn't in their budget.
