Is a bustle necessary?

I've heard countless stories about the bustle breaking very early on into the reception and I'm not sure if its worth spending the money on having a bustle made for my dress. Are bustles a necessity?

Yes, unless you're OK with tripping on your dress or having people step on it and ripping it, etc.

A broken bustle is usually easily fixed with a few safety pins.

  • Okay, I've just read about a lot of people that have had their bustle break early into the ceremony. I wasn't sure if it was needed or if it was something that was good in theory and didn't always work out in real life. I'll be sure to talk with the seamstress to make sure that there are various ways that it can be fixed if something happens!

    Thanks!

[QUOTE]I assume, of course, that your dress has a train. Obviously this is all moot if it doesn't... I only had a sweep train (no more than 2ft?) and I'm still glad that I was able to get it out of the way for the reception. Besides... no one posts here if their bustle *doesn't* break :)

It does have a train and I thought I would need a bustle but I wasn't sure... And its totally true that people don't post saying "Yay! My bustle didn't break!" I guess I didn't really think about that fact.
