Makeup Help

So this is kind of embarassing...but I am terrible with eye make up!   I have really dark eyes and most of the time I just wear eye shadow and mascara because I'm not good at any of the rest of it.  I'd like to find a good person to help me select the right colors for me and actually show me how to apply them for different looks and whatnot.  I will definitely be buying products, but I don't want to just walk up to a random mall counter person and hope to get lucky.Anyone go see a particularly good make up artist at the mall counters or a salon they could recommend for me? Thanks!

I'm no help what-so-ever because I am the exact same way!

Thanks Nae, I'm glad I'm not alone on this. :)

I love the Clinique counter girls.  The reason I like Clinique so much is that they never go crazy with the makeup.  It's always fresh looking.  I went there for a trial to see what colors I'd like and the girl did a fantastic job, really listened to me and what I wanted, and gave me great tips on how to apply my makeup.

I'm no help either because I'm the same way. Except I'm too shy to randomly walk up to a counter by myself. Who knows if those girls have any real cred.My MoH does FABULOUS night/going out makeup or theater makeup. I've learned a little from her but still stuck at applying it myself LOLAnd I only ever wear powder and eye makeup and lip gloss. I think I'm too cheap to get foundation/liquid stuff. And lazy.

    The Clinique ladies are trained.

I'll definitely check them out.  Thanks Mariah!I wear Bare Escentuals and I have been to their store at the Park's mall ...but their eye makeup really stinks. It's funny because everyone I know just LOVES MAC...but I am so intimidated by them at most of the malls I never actually stop there!

Kristin with Bobby Brown at Neimans Northpark. She is awesome! Trials are free with no pressure to buy anything (Neimans policy). She did my make up for my wedding and I love her. Now I go to her when I need new makeup. Its pricier makeup but its good and lasts awhile.

I would say Clinique also. My mom took me to one when I was younger (9th grade I think?). I had been wearing makeup for a few years by then, but they showed me a few tips. Mostly I just experiment myself, though. But if that's scary ask someone to show you!Ooh, or Sephora, I love Sephora, there's so much to play with!

You know, I haven't gotten the thing with Sephora.  I think it's because it overwhelms me when I go in.  It's like I want to look for stuff, but then my  head starts swimming and I don't know where to begin.  LOL

Haha, Mariah, I can totally see what you mean. I just get giddy. Some JCPenney's now have Sephoras, and they're much smaller, so that's nice.

I would try Sephora. I wanted to start using Bare Minerals and had a lady apply it for me for the first time so I knew how to use it, and she did awesome. The MAC girls are usually good, too, but they can definitely cake on the makeup. They did my wedding makeup, and it was good, but it was very cakey. I like something that looks more natural and doesn't feel like I have anything on - that's what I love about my Bare Minerals stuff, it's all powder, so it's very light, but still has great coverage.

I totally mistyped. I meant Ulta, not Sephora.

I had a really nice lady help me at the Lancome counter at Macys at Stonebriar but I do not know her name. You could also look at some You Tube makeup videos. There is one with this lady (again, can't remember her name- so sorry) who is really great with makeup and I followed some tips from her for my bridals and was pleased.

I work in the beauty industry (not makeup) but I would suggest you try a MAC store and make an appointment, dont just walk in.  I personally know Charles at the MAC in Galleria and he is great.  Most of the girls in the department store counters like clinique and lancome are just people who got the job with the department store and did a training class or two.  Thats just my oppinion.
